I am a firm believe in the benefits of sunscreen. However, I also can’t stand feeling greasy (especially my hands) so I find myself avoiding using it in situations that I can’t wash my hands after applying it. A perfect example of this is the current sunburn I have on my forearms and knees from attending an opening day baseball game. :smack:
Does anyone have any recommendations for nationally available, high-SPF sunscreens that won’t leave me feeling like I’ve been smeared with butter?
I’ve been using this for several years now. It absorbs quickly and is available in SPF 45.
I also recommend this for more active days. The best thing about it is that it’s got very little fragrance.
Being a fan of Neutrogena, I recently discovered that they, too, had an “Active/Sport” sunblock available. Check it out. I’ve used it just once this last weekend, but I liked it a lot.
I also have tried the Neutrogena sunscreens, and recommend them. Just remember to check the label of any sunscreen you use for one of the 3 following ingredients: Parsol 1789 (aka avobenzone), zinc oxide, or titanium dioxide. These are the only ingredients available in the US that will give you any protection against UVA rays (the ones that cause skin cancer). And remember to reapply every 2 hours.
I too love the Neutrogena stuff. I had this spray-on stuff that I would apply (often…my own mother says my coloring resembles that of a not-so-fresh cadaver) before tennis or golf, and I couldn’t tell I had gotten it on my hands at all.
I burn prety easily, and the 30SPF did very well, without re-application, for 4-hour rounds of golf, and 3-hour (sweaty!) tennis matches.
Funny, every time I’ve used Neutrogena I’ve been burned. But I’ve bought the ones specifically formulated to not cause breakouts and with a high spf. Result: major breakout & sunburn. Yay me.
Bullfrog’s favorite for me, though I don’t really like the new formulations, I don’t get burned.
I, uh, like Waterbabies, the pink stuff. And Coppertone’s color-change lotion–ooh purple!
**Lubriderm ** has a body lotion with an spf15 in it that is not greasy and perfect for the home-office-daily life-runabout stuff. This is my daily moisturizer in the fall and winter. This is great basic stuff that comes in a near VAT size container. One lasts me probably 15 months or so.
Oil of Olay face products have spf’s of 15-30 that are very nice, non greasy. This is my daily moisterizer in the fall and winter.
I tend to use two different SPF’s.
One for my face: Neutrogena I think **Almay ** has gotten into the sunscreen race, I’ve always liked their products.
Body: Ocean Potion ( cause it smells like a creamsicle and is affordable.) or whatever coppertone has out that has all the buzzwords for today’s healthy living thing. Another one that is really good is Nivea.
I’ve seen that there are handiwipes now with spf on them. I think this is a retarded idea, but I suppose it maybe helpful for the few who need something like this. You could bring just regular handiwipes along with you to wipe your hands free of the ick.
