Non-PC Food Names

Pretty much if they lived thru WWII, “Japs” was usually constantly and casually. My Dad “Fought the Japs” over in New Guinea and used “Japs” casually*, and even the Nisei guys from my Dads VFW post from the 442 not only had no issue, but used it themselves… only to refer to the Imperial Japanese of course. So, even the Japanese Americans called their foes in the Pacific Front = “Japs”.

  • and was pretty much the least racist guy from that generation I have ever known.

Not really a non-PC product name, but fits in the general thrust of the conversation.

Mrs Snowman and I were in a Chinese restaurant. They had a menu for coffee liqueurs which was helpfully illustrated with a caricature denoting each spirit that was added to the coffee. A drunk Frenchman with a string of onions around his neck for the Cognac; a horrendous caricature of a black man - all lips and rolling eyes - for the rum… you get the idea.

To this day, we refer to coffee liqueurs as “racist coffee”.

I’d love to see this attorney’s reaction if the owner caved on “Hot Dago” and changed it to “Hot Wop”.
