I have no idea. I remember I was searching for something in yahoo, found a column about it here, and everything since seems to have revolved around my addivction to it since… still havent been able to get into the chat because of my firewall, but I suppose that can only be a good thing…
A friend of mine told me that there was a site that explained what Kemosabe really meant. He said he looked it up in a search engine and it came to here.
He was right.
I read the columns online for about a year before I joined the SDMB.
It is called “Weird but True” or something. One of the entries was about a duck not having an echo. The site then proceeded to link to an SD column which debunked this piece of folklore. I started reading the archives and joined the message boards a few weeks afterwards.
RussellM: I believe ZenBeam is referring to the syndicated newspaper column seen in the US which i’ve never seen in any non-US english language newspaper. Sorry to piss on your bonfire :).
My link was the Chicago Reader, read the column, found the site and don’t work hard enough as a result ever since.
Yes, I know.
209, did you come here from the column, or did you follow a link, here about it from a friend? I suspect that most people follow a tangled web to get here, whether they start in the US or the rest of the world. ‘Here’ is not, in any real sense, ‘there’. It’s only a url. The rest of the world can easily come visit.
No, not a tangled web for me. Read the column in the reader (on paper), found reader online, found the straightdope. The rest is history. For me, that is. Immemorably so for the rest of you I guess
