We were discussing “graveyarding” (mixing all the sodas in a fountain together) at work today. Although we all agreed those drinks tasted awful, one person vouched for mixing Coke and Orange Crush. I tried it and it does taste pretty good. I don’t think I’ll try her friends’ favorite mix–Coke and Yoohoo:confused:. What sodas or juices you wouldn’t expect to have mixed do you like?
'Round where I’m from, this drink is known as “suicide.” My typical fountain drink is Diet Coke/Pepsi to about 3/4 to 7/8, and the rest Dr Pepper. It’s nothing fancy, but elegant in its own way.
A local favorite around here used to be the ‘Dewclear’. It is nuclear (berry flavored, from the fountain) filling about 1/4 of the cup, rest the rest being Mountain Dew hence Dewclear. Kum & Go is the only place I’ve ever seen nuclear available at the fountain, so it may not be available nationwide (or internationally).
I’ve always heard the term “suicide” for mixing fountain sodas. I’m partial to either Pepsi + Dr. Pepper or root beer + Dr. Pepper.
It’s a graveyard here. Someone should really make a map (like the soda vs. pop map) that shows what it’s called around the country. I enjoy Mountain Dew + any sort of fruit soda.
Midwest=suicide
California=suicide
Rocky Mtns=suicide
“Graveyard” must be one of those eastern things. Like Springsteen.
Oh, when I was in Germany people were mixing coke and something–bitter lemon?–and had a name for it. It sounded kind of like “spaetzle” but I know that wasn’t it. But it was pretty good.
Spezi? You could drink it with a side of spaetzle I guess.
Can’t believe nobodys mentioned-Milk+Pepsi
We called 'em “suicides” in New England as well.
If you’re going to mix Coke and orange, at least use actual orange juice (Tropicana’s good - freshly squeezed’s better). You can even pretend it’s halfway healthy.
A warning, though - if you use pulpy OJ, you’ll get a thin film of pulp floating in your glass. I don’t mind it, but some people find it off-putting.
Diet Mountain Dew + Diet Sunkist
Diet Dr Pepper + Diet A&W
Diet Pepsi + Milk (a variation of Pepsi and milk from Laverne & Shirley)
Faygo Diet Redpop + Sprite Zero or Diet Mountain Dew
If you go beyond fountain drinks, you can add
Cranberry juice + Sprite
Iced tea + Peach or Raspberry Crystal Light
These are just the ones that I personally like. The combinations are endless.
I used to like Coke & orange juice as a kid.
We used to call a bunch of sodas mixed together “swamp water” (Sask., Canada).
Minute Maid Lemonade or Hi-C Orange + Sprite.
I like diet Sprite and orange or apple juice, 3:1. The juice covers up that nasty artificial sweetener aftertaste, and the diet Sprite means that I only get about a quarter of the sugar and calories from the juice.
Yup. Same in Atlantic Canada. Root Beer and Orange seems to come to mind.
That’s it!
I like to mix Sprite or 7-Up with root beer. Either half and half or mostly Sprite with just a squirt of root beer.
This is really good. The thing is you have to use whole milk. Basically all it is is a melted float.
If you take vanilla ice cream and put it in Pepsi you have a Pepsi float. No one thinks anything of it. The ice cream melts into the Pepsi
Well milk is pretty much melted ice cream, just not as creamy.
I like ginger ale + orange juice. Maybe with a bit of club soda to dilute the sweetness.
I’m not sure it’s the same thing, but in the midwest the kids call mixing all the flavors in a snowcone ‘tiger’s blood’. Haven’t a clue where that comes from.
