NorCal Doper Bash (or Let's get on the stick, people!)

This is a continuation of the old thread: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=21253

Now, I know I probably sound like a nag, but we really need to finalize the plans for this meeting. We have a week left, and so far it’s been “yeah, whatever”. There are a lot of us in the chatroom that are unsure as to what the deal is. So, we all need to know:

Questions that need to be answered:

-Are you going? Yes, or No? We need you who were undecided to declare if you are going or not.

-Where in the city should we all meet before dinner? Is there a place you would like to go to before we have the actual dinner? Please make a suggestion. Lets narrow it down to one place we can all meet up (some people are coming by themselves and would like someone to go with. This is important for me, because where we meet before the dinner depends on what time PCW picks me up, and what time I know to get up and be ready. This is important (especially for me and her, and probably a lot of you). Of course, you dont have to meet with anyone before dinner, but some of us would like to make the day in SF worthwhile by going someplace fun. So far no one has decided on anything. I suggest the Exploratorium.

  • What restaurant are we having this at? We need someone who has knowledge of SF restaurants to pick a good place. We’ll need the directions to it also. I know Puerto Alegre was suggested, but well, it didnt seem like anyone disagreed, or agreed (i’m not picky about food, as long as there are no vital organs in it :))

-What time is the dinner going to happen at? It seemed as if 4:00 pm was a good time. Is this good for everyone?

  • Rides. Does everyone have a ride? If you can offer to drive someone say so here. If you need a ride, dont hesitate to say so. I am taken care of.

  • The play. We all know it’s the Mountain Play in Marin on sunday (the website has the time). You can get tickets to it at the gate. I was told by one of the people over email that it probably wont be sold out, so for those of you who didnt think you could get tickets, you most likely will be able to. However, does anyone need a ride to it? Does anyone need a place to crash? Speak up now if you do. Speak up if you can offer rides to that, and/or a place for people to crash (I think dem offered his place).

I’m not trying to be a nag, i just dont want people left hanging, and confused as to the situation. I think some of the problem is there is no main coordinator for it this time (I was the one who coordinated the last one, i think Dem did the one before that). So people, lets get our asses in gear and figure this thing out. If you are planning to go, please please please, answer these questions. We have about a week to get it all down and ready!

As I posted at the tail end of the other thread I will be there on Saturday. I won’t be able to finalize travel plans till tomorrow (Tuesday, the 30th) so I don’t know how early I will be there but definitely in time to meet at 4:00 p.m. at the Puerto Alegre, right? I’ll be staying right downtown, as close to the Moscone Center as possible, possibly at the Marriott. If people want to use my hotel as a gathering place prior to dinner let me know and I’ll make arrangements as needed.

It’s too bad the get together isn’t at the end of the month when over 500,000 people will descend on this city for the yearly Gay Pride Fair & Parade. You don’t have to be gay to enjoy an all out party, and the things you would see!

Well, this is why I started the new thread, to get a definate confirmation on things. However, i forgot to append, if you dont like this thread, you can of course answer in the other :). I suspect the low number of replies to this one and the near halt of replies to the other may be due to this being a holiday weekend. Anyway, check both threads often (well, whenever someone replies to them).

You know I’ll be there, Doob!
Just a thought- meeting at the Marriott might be a good idea. It would give those who are driving in a central place to park, and is close enough to those who are BARTing in. We could all carpool or cab to the restaurant together from there.

patting SeaDiver on the butt

The Marriott was full so I’m staying at the Ramada at Civic Plaza instead. It’s half a block from the Civic Center BART station and closer to the Puerto Alegre.

No problem using it as a meeting place. I’m flying in to SFO about 1:30. By the time I get to the hotel and settled in it will be close to 3:00 I imagine so the timing will be about right.

The only hiccup is that I’ll be out of e-mail reach so I’ll need to know if I should wait around for others or not. If I don’t hear anything definite I will just wait in the lobby till 3:45 or so and then head over to the restaurant.

Bad news; I’m going to have to bow out. I’ll be in southern California this weekend, and won’t be available to attend after all :frowning:

Maybe next time?

I’d be interested in making the next meeting. I need to prepare for finals. FYI, I’m in Palo Alto.

This is the first I’ve heard of it. Since I’m “across the pond” at the moment, I won’t be able to make it, but I’m returning to my Beloved Bay Area (N.Oakland) soon, so I’ll keep my eyes open for the next one you all plan.

Just reminding anyone who may have forgot: This is tomorrow! Yay! See ya there.

I knew I would not be able to make it Sat. But Sun is also a no go for me as well. Work has me on the short leash to help with silicon debug of a new device. ( I don’t have to be there, but I have to be able to get into work on a moments notice.)

OK, I made reservations for 15(why not? ;)) at Puerto Allegre for 4 PM on Saturday. They mumbled something about only being able to stay two hours, I don’t know WTF that is all about, but I’m sure we can either kick their asses into letting us stay or find a nice, respectable dive to hang out in after. Oh yeah, the reservation is under the name Cecil. See ya tomorrow!

I will be there. Don’t worry I live 4 blocks from the place. I know all the best dives.

Oooooohhhh! Oldscratch, where are we going? I’m so excited!!!

I am, unfortunately, NOT going to be able to make Bay Area Dopefest v3. I asked Demo and Doob to have dinner with me afterwards, but turns out I’m closing at the store I work in on Saturday night, so I don’t think that’s going to happen either. I’m sorry I’ll miss you all, but hopefully I will be able to make Dopefest v4. Hope you all have a great time, though!

(On the upside, a friend from New York is going to be in town this weekend, and I’ll be able to see him on Sunday, and Melin is coming up to visit later this month, so my life isn’t quite ruined.)

If Kyla’s not coming I’m not coming.

Oh, all right. I’ll come.

I’m just heading for the airport. Will see you all this afternoon/evening.

I’ll be the tall, well-dressed, good-looking guy.

Just “prepping” with a few beers here before I leave. Maybe I’ll go cruise the Haight before I head over there.

Kyla, that sucks that you have to work late. Give me a call if you still want to go after work, we’ll probably be up/out late anyway.
