::RTF flashes back to his wedding night::
My penchant for bad timing continues. I’ll be in the Norfolk area from 30 June - 5 July visiting the folks (my stepdad the Chief and my Mom), but will be back to teaching by the time the end of August rolls around. Haven’t been on a carrier since the Chief was on the Kennedy back in the 70’s. If you’ve never been on board, folks, I highly recommend it. Maybe another time ChiefScott?
Any possibility of bringing her to SF bay??
I’ve always wanted t osee a carrier. My Ex was (shudder) a yeoman in an AIR SQUADRON. (I’m so ashamed)
Sounds like a damn good time. I won’t be anywhere near Norfolk then, but anxiously await hearing from all of you as to how it turns out. I’ve seen the George Washington (CVN-71?) and you guys are certain to be impressed. Although you won’t get to see the really interesting and somewhat more secret parts, there is still enough cool stuff to gaze upon.
You know, someone ::looking in Chief’s direction:: should start a thread for current/former members of the Navy. I’m an ROTC midshipman myself, and in January will be an ensign. I’ve seen a number of squids around these parts, it might be nice to get a roundup.
Those of you wishing to get a preview of the sniping that will occur at this gathering can check out the Raleigh meeting minutes thread, where Chief is losing a battle of wits with me.
And Falcon returns, somewhat befuddled, from her daily trip to the alternate universe where she is always right and I bow before her.
Yo Chief. Check the Raleigh minutes. WHO’S living in an alternate universe again, “Mr. Large, Desirable, and Manly”???
Shh, Falcon. Don’t tell the whole board your pet names for me.
raises eyebrow Pet names?
Oh, you mean I can’t call you “Skunk,” or “Felchmeister” on the board? WHAT a shame.
And there he was: reigning supreme at number two.
Falcon, don’t mind him. He has a soft heart and a head to match.
Now children, don’t make me have to send you to separate threads…
Chief, I don’t know if I’ll be able to make this one…it’s the 1 year aniversary of a grandparents passing, so we may be out of town attening a service. I’ll let you know as I get closer.
If I’m in town, I’ll definatly be there…although I’m not really very interested in seeing the ship, I’m sure Meredith would like to…I’ll let ya know more later. And thanks for the invite.
P.S. I know renman doesn’t post here much anymore, think I should shoot off an e-mail to him?
Fine then… Chief, can I sleep on the SHIP?!?!?
Also, since we are visiting what is essentially a vehicle, I think it is quite selfish of you to not come to us.
In fact, I say we just go around to all ports available and visit dopers as we go.
Think we can get it into the Great Lakes for the Midwest Dopers around Chicago, maybe? Get to work on that one, please.
Oh, and please keep all hair cutting devices way from me! I know you guys have to keep all clean-cut, but I’m just a guest, okay? Besides, you will have Drain Bead to answer to if I come back a baldie, and trust me - You do NOT want to exchange fire with her… A woman scorned by her man being shown and all…
Oh, and if you put the above into a Babbelfish translator, it will say: “Yes, I shall be there, and I am looking forward to it!”
Yer putz,
Satan :wally
I HAVE BEEN SMOKE-FREE FOR:
Two months, one week, six days, 13 hours, 35 minutes and 8 seconds.
2982 cigarettes not smoked, saving $372.83.
Life saved: 1 week, 3 days, 8 hours, 30 minutes.
Don’t you mean "You do NOT want to exchange fire with her… A woman scorned by her man being shorn and all… "
Or a woman shorn by her man…
Nope can’t go there.
No sleeping on the ship!
Yeas, Bri, I have your name on the list…
At the top…
In red magic marker…
With little stars beside it.
Oh, and I do believe I left the Barber Shop off the tour!
Atreal – Go ahead and buzz renman. Look forward to seeing you again.
And Falcon took advantage of my loss of satellite connectivity and got the last word in last night.
She will remain on the pier, and we can wave at her from the flight deck. Nyah-nyah-nyah!
It sounds like my husband will be attending with me, so add a strong possible to him. He also wanted me to ask how’s the fishing off of the port side? :ducks and runs:
Damn, Chief snuck a post in on me. Chief…I’ll be RIGHT beside you on the ship. Don’t you worry…no leaving ME behind.
Melin’s hollering that she wants to go. I might be able to REALLY take advantage of that. Especially since I don’t think my schedule will let me go.
Chief, if Melin can work it out, are one or more of the boys allowed? Youngest Son, age 10, is a future military man, no question about it.
All very tentative, but thinking about it.
Melin might be coming???
WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
does happy dance all around her room
That’s it, now I’m definitely showing up! (Not that I wasn’t before, if only to get Chief to quit sniping at me.)
Highlander –
The young lads are more than welcome. Are they scotch or whisky men?
Chief,
I am planning on being there. By August my life should be fairly calmed down, and I can really use a good excuse to get smashed in a seaside bar, with Satan and a bunch of squids. Anyone looking for share paying passengers from the DC area should let me know in Email, but I will get there one way or another.
Are they gonna let me on the Ike with a digital camera? I will bring one if you say it works, but I don’t want to get arrested for espionage again. Er, I mean, well, lets not talk about that. Anyway I would love to take some pictures, if that is OK with the Navy. I can make copies on the spot and share with anyone who brings a floppy disk, so we can get pictures on line fairly fast.
I will plan a week off that surrounds the arranged days. That way I can get there even if I end up walking.
