This is clearly important to you, but I’m not sure why. What it means domestically is that it didn’t get ratified by 2/3 of the U.S. Senate, which almost never happens anymore. Internationally, other countries take agreements between nations pretty damn seriously if they’ve been agreed to by the chief executives of those nations on their behalf. (Not sure on this, but I think that’s what other countries consider a ‘treaty’ to be.) We seem to be the outlier here.
Should be interesting to see how much Trump gives away in return for practically nothing.
He’s already given away the fact of the summit itself - something that NK wanted from the past several US Presidents, but they refused to give him the equal status that that would have implied.
More important, let’s see how far trump gets from Singapore before he changes his mind and rescinds whatever he did there.
This is a rather important point that Trump and his supporters have been madly spinning. They argue that, unlike his predecessors, Trump has managed to bring Kim to the negotiating table, despite the fact that the Kims have wanted a sit-down with a US President for decades. It’s a bit like bragging that you convinced a toddler to eat a quart of ice cream; they’ve always wanted to, but other responsible grown-ups before you had recognized that there would be undesirable consequences to doing so.
Which wall was this? Obviously not the Berlin Wall, which was intact and in use when Reagan left office.
Reagan told the Russians to “Tear down this wall!” and his supporters cheered. But the Russians did nothing.
Hey hey HEY… don’t you go bringing facts into things when people are trying to spin a Reagan myth! There’s no place for facts in the modern GOP, you know that!
Okay, no one else jumped on this, so I will.
Seriously? Had his eyes opened? Do you think this trip was his first time outside of NK, or something? He went to school in Switzerland, for god’s sake!
You seem to have some image in your head of Kim being some wild savage from the jungle, being impressed by all the Magical Technology of the rest of the world. But he’s not. He’s probably got a better, and more worldly, education than you. He knows exactly what the rest of the world is like, in comparison to NK, and he’s known it for most if not all of his life. That you think this one visit to SK will suddenly “open his eyes” and make him desperate for Trump’s approval is just ludicrous.
And that’s the key point. It doesn’t matter what Trump says, or even what he puts on paper. It matters what he will do, and keep doing for the long term. And if there’s anything you can learn from his entire history as a businessman, it’s that he doesn’t stick to any agreement for very long after he perceives some benefit to himself of breaking it.
And I can guarantee you Kim and the rest of the North Koreans know that perfectly well.
I predict Kim will sign an agreement to do all these things, and Trump will declare the summit a triumphal success.
Then Kim won’t do anything he agreed to. And Silver lining will wave his MAGA hat and mindlessly chant “Four more years!”
Kim brought his own toilet with him. He is afraid to let anyone get hold of his waste. Maybe he is worried about DNA being taken.
I thought it was part of the Korean catechism that the Kims did not require any bathrooms because they neither shit nor pissed.
So Don The Con didn’t feel a need to prepare for the meeting because he’s been preparing all his life. Somehow I’m not optimistic for a breakthrough here.
their waste is a combo of gold, silver and diamonds.
Hey, rest of the world: Everything is cool, Dennis Rodman has arrived in Singapore! It’s a day for the history books, and of course, Trump’s eternal shitfire legacy.
So are there like 50 North Korean missiles pointed at the US, locked and loaded, right now? Must be, because Kim must have left instructions his closest people back home to press the NK version of the button should anything happen to him. Kind of scary.
Like what if he randomly has a heart attack or something? We’re probably toast.
Meh, they can’t reach Arkansas, screw you guys on the West coast.
I’m in NYC, but according to 60 Minutes last night, he could probably hit us too.
Well, crap.
I’ve always believed that I’m screwed in nuclear war with the Rooskies by Jacksonville Air Force Base being close.
What the hell would NK be shooting at?
I assume their aim isn’t great so they’d just aim for the middle of the country.
Aw, crap, that is me!
I can’t believe a man known as The Worm may have brokered the most important peace deal of our time.
