Northern California Meets Southern California: The return

Understood…and you haven’t met me yet

The later retrun flight gets in at something like 10 AM the next morning, IIRC, there is some treachery at the connection in Chicago.

I’ll see what I can do. BTW, LAX is still the best option for me, but I’ve not heard from anyone down there, so SFO seems to be my only recourse.

oh, and me email is on the way.

La lala laaaaa

Deedle dooby doooo, hmmm hmmmm…

I think this might’ve been discussed already, but does anyone besides me REALLY want to tour the Hearst Castle? I was thinking Saturday afternoon would be a good time. Hopefully someone that has a car will want to go (and drive), and whoever goes could chip in for gas. It’s only 40 miles from SLO…

I’d be into a Hearst Castle trip. The tours are pretty good, but short. I think it’s about 45 minutes to an hour of walking, plus the 20 minute bus ride each way to get there.

There’s a little museum and some other stuff at the visitor center. Last time I was there we spent significantly less time than we had expected to, but it was still worth the trip. It’s definitely a good way to kill half a day.

Could I pay you using the gigantic stone coins of the Yap Islanders?

<SIGH>

Money and timing are not looking good right now, so I think I will not be attending like I’d hoped. :frowning:

Well, at least I got to meet (and kiss!) Doob at the last L.A. Dopefest. I’ll have to be happy with that until next time…

Esprix

Sooo…this thing is going from 40+ people to what, 9?

WTF?

Calling all So Cal people…calling all So Cal people…where the hell are you? Dont make me pull up the old list of interested people!

I just remembered something. The people at the Mission Grill said we needed to call two weeks in advance to reserve space in the restaurant. I guess pat and I will have to go with the definites who have spoken their piece here, and extrapolate some extra seats to accomodate the maybies. I’ll talk to pat about it later.

Keep counting me in. I’m still trying to work out a ride and a place to stay. If I can’t, I’ll let you know what’s up.

I’d be really interested in the Hearst Castle tour too… anyone else?

I’m willing to drive.

Bump, and I can drive out to Hearst Castle too.

Maybe it’s time to start a campaign of email harassment to get the attention of everybody who posted in the first thread?

Welcome to the richly rewarding and always gratifying activity known as organizing a Dopefest.

I’m still in for the event as of this date. I’m also up for a tour of Hearst Castle as I mentioned before. I’ll probably take the train down on Friday and get in around 3:30 PM.

Good Idea. I was thinking Just that. Come on people, unless you want an email in your mail box, you had best respond here. Dont leave use hanging!

Jeeze people, even the Midwesterners are making more of a showing than the So Cal people. This is turning into “Nor Cal Meets Really cool Midwest people who are flying in when the So Cal people only have a few hours to drive” :).

I do understand a few of you are having personal crises, so you are eexcused, but I havent heard from some of the people in the first list.

That being the case, Doob, I’m just gonna fly into SFO and if no one wants to pick me up and drink for free, I’ll just rent a car and see y’all down there.

Shit, and I’ll fire off a check for the room soon, I promise.

You know, if it werent 2 plus hours more on my trip, i’d pick your ass up, think :). Anyway, renting a car may be the easiest route for you. Besides, the drive in a lot of the country south of SF is pretty. Actually a lot of the area between Monterey and there is beautiful (IMNSHO).

Oh yeah, for those who havent driven in SLO, the town is fairly easy to drive around in. Lots of stop lights and things. The traffic wasnt bad, even on a sunday afternoon.

thinksnow - if you do the early flight on Friday/late return on Sunday, I can provide transport. If not, I think there are a couple of dopers without cars in the Bay Area that might be interested in sharing a rental if you go that route. You can also take Amtrak, but I don’t know how much that would cost or what their schedule would be.

I’m flying in Thursday night and I’m not leaving until dang near midnight Sunday, so y’all Sotherner Californians better get a’moving.

BTW, if anyone wants anything from Louisville…Kentucky Derby stuff or Makers Mark, email me soon and I’ll see what I can do.
