Ok, tonight in chat, Pricciar and I had the idea that it would be cool if the Nor Cal and So Cal factions of the board could meet somewhere in the middle. Now, hopefully we’ll get enough people for this thing. Otherwise me and Pat will call you all wusses and tease you to no end about it. So, here’s some of the ideas:
Place: Somewhere in San Luis Obispo, or Pismo beach (that area) i think it may be central enough for both the So cal and Nor Cal dopers. Looking at my map, it may just be. Pat thought Santa Barbara, but we cant give the edge to him…besides if so, we’d have to automatically have it at his place, and I dont think he wants that :).I think it’s close enough to everyone that it could be a short weekend trip for most of you. And, SLO being a college town MUST have some places to eat. Also, if Pismo Beach, i know it’s touristy enough there’s gotta be places there too.
Time: Sometime during the summer. I think it’s long enough for you all to prepare. Also, people in HS like Monster104 could make it since he wouldn’t be in school, and neither would I (i’m off for the summer by May).
So hopefully both factions will want to meet.I started the thread now just to get that seed planted, and i think it’s ample enough time for you guys to prepare. So, who’s in, come on, you KNOW you want to!
Ok, since this would be happening when I’m out of school, I’m game.
I like the idea of San Luis Obispo… and I’m sure there’s a hotel around there that we can take over. It would be a giant Doper Slumber Party–Pillow fights, makeovers, late-night pizza binges, silly pranks–oh, this could be fun!

Anyway, Spooje, Fresno is a good idea, but i mean, i try to avoid the central valley as much as I can (Well, i do have friends in CSUFresno, but well…).
Here are some distances from SLO to other California cities:
Fresno - SLO: 140 miles
Monterey - SLO: 122 miles
Santa Rosa - SLO: 281
LA - SLO: - 204 miles
Santa Barbara - SLO: 105 miles
San JOse - SLO: 185 miles
*driving distances most direct route, not counting traffic, evil drivers, etc.
So, i dont want to hear anyone complain that it’s TOO far from them. Demo and Psy are probably the furthest from it, and i KNOW they’d probably be down to come.
Also, we could make this one of the best bashes and beat all the others for the most ultimate doper bash ;).
uggh, 281 miles. Dunno about that. We’ll keep it in mind though. Perhaps if psy and I are feeling particularly frisky that weekend and my mom doesn’t mind having the kids for the weekend we’ll give it a shot. Then again, if we are feeling frisky and have no kids for the weekend…well, nevermind.
I don’t know WHERE you guys think NorCal IS, but I live near Redding, which is about 3 driving hours north of Sacramento. SLO is NOT half way to LA. Now if what you want is MidCal - SoCal meeting, then maybe you are close.
But I’m telling you, I will piss and moan and WHINE…
I will go if I am around (I’m vaguely planning to go travelling, but who knows?) and can carpool with someone. SLO sounds okay, Pismo Beach is not in central CA at all.
How about Yosemite, or the surrounding area? My family has friends up in the mountains near Yosemite, and it’s absolutely gorgeous. We could rent a couple cabins for a few days, it would probably be cheaper that way, too. Downside: not so many pubs and restaurants, although I prefer picnics and swimming in lakes anyway. Also, everyone would have to drive pretty far, equal opportunity travelling.
I’ve missed the other N. Cal Doper gatherings. Maybe I could make it to this one. San Luis Obispo sounds nice. Yosemite’s great, but I’d want to spend more time there since it’s a longer drive.
My vote’s for SLO. I’ll keep an eye on this thread.
Well uh, i was thinking between the bay area and the LA region, which puts it in the middle, so there! thumbs nose at dragon lady. Perhaps I should have titled it “Bay Area Meets LA Area” and excluded you and Fnord all together?
If we were to have it smack dab on the center of California on the coast, then that probably puts it where I live…Monterey Bay (inland would probably be Fresno). But, the LA people will probably piss and moan about it being here, because it’s like 334 miles between here and there.
SO, if you dont like SLO, perhaps we can vote on a good place to have it that would make EVERYONE happy? (fortunately I live in Central Cali so any where central in this state isnt going to be that long of a drive for me nyah nyah!). Remember, i would like to get as many dopers in this state to come as possible, even the lazy Santa Rosans :).
Oh and demo: Bitch and moan…you were willing to pick me up for the first SF meeting, which would have added 3 hrs to get here, then 2 to get to SF, then the same amount of time to drop me off and you to get home. You’re getting soft :).
May I also add a consideration for whereever this is held? Since it’s far enough away, I’m hoping to try and make it out. Can we make sure whereever this is is reasonably close to an airport? (I honestly don’t remember if there’s one in SLO…been over 8 years since I was in Cali.)
And y’all BETTER pull this off…I’m gonna try and make this my summer vacation!
Well, the more I think about it, the more it sounds like a great idea. psy and I could use a little getaway anyway. SLO is as good a place as any. We’ll definitely try to make it.
Fine, Doob, just fine! Fnord and I will just sit up here and mope! Too far north for Cal, to far south for the PNW.
And we didn’t get to Dublin, either!!
