I’ve got news, Bucko, most Norwegians abhor ludefisk. It is the bitter herbs of the exile. It is why we fled Trondheim in droves. Lefsa is OK but the cod flavored gelatinous mass that is ludefisk is the equivalent of the shoes Lord Franklin’s sailors ate as the last measure before starvation. It reminds us of the life of poverty and deprivation in the old country – and good riddance to it!

Actually, I saw this part of the Inaugaural Parade and Dude, I didn’t even register it as anything but the longhorns salute thanks to Peter Jennings excellent narration.
The thumb was tucked under and it didn’t seem a proper salute to me. Actually, that configuration is symbolic of the deceit of man at a base level. He is hiding his opposable digit by tucking it under the second and third… These are quite literally the penultimate physical expressions of the two things that seperate us from the animals and make us the ultimate killers/predators. Our unique opposable thumb being consciously hidden (lie). That’s the number of man.
