Not angry at all.

This guy is that old? Seriously?? You’ve got to be kidding me.

You’d think that would stop surprising me, but despite all the moaning Zane groaning about what dicks millennials are, it always ends up being those old enough to know better.

Then private possession of semi-automatics should be illegal. Thank you for clarifying the issue.

A revolver is a semi-automatic weapon in that it fires one round each time the trigger is pulled.

Let’s make ammo illegal.

Maybe let’s register semi-automatics …

This thread was more fun when we were picking on Stringbean, although I have actually learned some things. grumble

If you make ammo illegal then only illegals will have ammo.

Oh my. Yo mama jokes!

That’s hate speech. You partyist.

Funny the vitriol that is directed at a poster when he rightfully points out how eager the left is for a crime to be associated with an enemy of one of their recent moral crusades yet nothing but extreme caution when the perpetrator is a member of the left’s victim hierarchy. Even the term “Muslim name” is weasel like. If this shooter would have been inspired by some far right nutty ideology there would be no hesitation to comment. There would be no hesitation to condemn the ideology that led to the shooting. But since it’s a non US dominant religion and thus “oppressed” the focus is on weapons that millions own peacefully, mental health, and other tangential issues.

Religious fundamentalism and conservatism go hand in hand. So in some sense I do think that a right-wing boogeyman just killed 50 people.

He was inspired by a far right ideology: homophobia. Something that’s being largely ignored in favor of making the issue about Islam.

If the shooter had been Christian, I expect people would be reluctant to even use the word “terrorism”, and we’d be seeing lots of not-very-subtle hinting from right wing politicians and preachers about the victims deserved it. The same thing we always see when that happens.

You mean he was inspired by his religion which teaches violent homophobia. Which was the factor in this shooting. Not some imaginary shooting.

Lots of religions teach violent homophobia. Protecting and promoting religions which teach violent homophobia is a regular activity in the right wing.

Focusing on the violent homophobia of the shooter’s particular religion while giving violent homophobia in other religions a pass would make it impossible to fight violent homophobia. Which may well be the right-wing boogeyman’s objective.

I guess the gunman figured the Honky Tonk across town was full of folks who love their own guns more than life itself.

And you know this how? He grew up in America, a nation with plenty of violent homophobia. He didn’t need his religion to teach him to hate homosexuals.

Florida has a pretty liberal gun laws… didn’t seem to help tho did it? All that talk about “only a good guy with a gun stops a bad guy with a gun” crap is just that…crap.

And a big hearty “Fuck You!” to anyone who blames something like this on a political leaning. Are you fucking kidding me? Are you so small minded that you truly think a political philisophy allowed for a sick fuck to buy an AR-15 and walk into a crowded club and kill 49 people??

This happened because people hate. People hate out of fear, ignorance, weakness, mental illness and hundreds of other reasons. We need to figure a way to counter the hate or we will all lose, all of us.

In the meantime (while we figure how to eliminate hate) how about we just stop selling guns like they are Skittles?

And why can’t it take longer, and require as much paperwork, insurance, and background checks, to buy a gun as it did to purchase my non-leathal home??

This. As a Christian in the south, it’s pretty much everywhere. Right now, there is a church less than three miles from me that’s sign reads, “Making sin a law doesn’t make it right.” And that’s the fourth time I’ve seen something similar with 75 miles of me since the SCOTUS ruled SSM constitutional.

If people don’t realize that spreading that is hate, fear mongering and demonizing the opposition that will in turn lead to violence, I don’t know what they would be believe. But it can be prevalent across any religion about any hot button topic. It’s not just the latest boogeyman.

I’m guessing they believe the only reason for Sodom’s smiting was because it was full of sodomites.

And they don’t see self-righteousness as a sin.
