Not conventionally pretty, but attractive nonetheless

Julia Roberts can either be very pretty or horsefaced, IMHO. It all depends on the lighting, camera angle, makeup, etc.

Hmm. I’m not sure. It gets tricky. I mean, I think she is attractive, but not conventionally beautiful compared to other Asian actresses that are touted as beautiful. (Michelle Yeouh, Zhang Ziyi, Lucy Lui. I know I am spelling these names wrong, but when I was googling for pics, I mistakenly clicked on some dodgy virusy sites, so I’m done googleing Asian Beauties or anything similar)

Maybe those other actresses are judged conventionally pretty because they are closer to the Caucasian idea. I don’t know. I’m kinda confused.

Yeah, I’ve always been big on Bjork, but my libido became momentarily confused when I realized she and Roseanne Barr look very much alike except for the padding.

As for a contribution to this thread (and these threads never go well as everyone just ends up debating conventional attractiveness), I nominate Miranda July.

Flo the Progressive Chick and Kari Byron from Mythbusters.
And though she’s become a conservative hack as of late, I’ve always had a thing for Victoria Jackson.
Cyndi Lauper is getting a little long in the tooth, but she looks pretty good on the Apprentice, and I’d still do her.

Also, I’ll give a nod to Campbell Brown, the CNN anchor. She can give me the headlines any day.

Juliette Lewis is an attractive woman who seemingly goes the extra mile in trying to make herself look as unattractive as possible. Also, the fact she frequently plays annoying, whiny, white trash characters who often have psychotic streaks is a further turn-off to lot of males (and I won’t even go into detail about the fact she’s a Scientologist too).

Agreed. That goes double, by the way, if you’re a paparazzi or even just an innocuous reporter who just wants to ask her a few questions.

I wouldn’t say Miranda Otto (Eowyn in The Lord of the Rings) is “conventionally pretty,” but I certainly find her attractive: http://www.celebopedia.net/miranda-otto/images/miranda-otto.jpg

Likewise Audrey Tautou (Amelie): http://www.famode.com/admin/UserFiles/image/Audrey%20Tautou.jpg

And Emily Watson (Punch-Drunk Love): http://content8.flixster.com/photo/30/92/54/3092542_gal.jpg

Or consider Helen Mirren (The Queen): http://www.twolia.com/blogs/daily-beauty-break/files/2008/10/helen_mirren.jpg

Wow, some people have pretty weird notions of what “conventionally pretty” means.

I guess unless you’re a Hollywood 10, you’re not conventionally pretty. If you’re an Oakland 10 or a St. Louis 10, it doesn’t count.

Yeah, that ugly-ass Helen Mirren.

Grace Kelly. Weird nose, wide jaw, totally plain.

It’s all relative. There are so many smokin’ hawt women in the movies and on TV that those whose features are irregular or idiosyncratic in some way are “not conventionally pretty, but attractive nonetheless.” And, as always, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

This only applies if you’re talking about Helen Mirren as The Queen. Otherwise she scrubs up very well indeed.

I was just kidding, and I honest-to-god can’t tell if you are.
