If you Dopers can get this I’ll (thinks and decides not to make the ante too high) be very impressed.
There is a piece of classical music I’ve been looking for and I don’t know how to go about it. It does have vocals but I don’t think it is operatic. I think it was used in E/A commercials and is used in many other commercials. About the best way I can describe it is that it probably has the best climax of all classical music. Is there a top 20 classic site that has wavs?
Well, if you want a piece with a great climax, try Samuel Barber’s “Adagio For Strings”. But, this is probably not what you are looking for, as it has no vocals…
E/A commercials…? Help me out and unabbreviate the E/A? Not sure what this stands for.
Anything else you can tell me about the piece? Are the vocals words? I presume not in English (else you could quote lyrics) – do they sound like any particular language?
Could it be Carmina Burana by Carl Orff? It has choir vocals and is used in commercials a lot. I don’t know how to describe it, but if you search on the web you will find a lot of sites about it.
Sorry, I can’t help with the piece, but if the OP is very persistant, the following midi archives may help:
Classical Music Archive
Classical Midi Connection
You can also try Adcritic to see if they have the commercial archived. If they do, they usually provide links to the music in question.
Finally, let me second dlgirl. Carmina Burana is probably the most overused piece of music in advertising today.

Was it also used in the Guinness train ad? If so, it’s the Carmina Burana.
If you’re not familiar with the Guinness train ad, you can view it at their site. It’s the one on the left.
Shucks you dopers are good. It is Carmina Burana piece. Even posting it to the wrong board didn’t slow you down at all. Thanks
It doesn’t matter anymore, but I believe the EA in question was the computer game company Electronic Arts.
THIRSTY MIND-----
Welcome to the CARMINA BURANA club. I play FORTUNA IMPERATIX MUNDI almost DAILY. (go to NAPSTER) I, like you, heard it for YEARS before I was able to find out the name of it. Then I go to buy it, thinking it’s some OBSCURE thing, and it’s got it’s OWN TAB and 10 versions of it. Had a good laugh at myself.
ENJOY.
Monstre if you ever get tired of the Adagio try [Symphony No. 3 by Henryk Gorecki** (there should be a ’ over that letter o) It is like the adagio on stroids and acid at the same time.
I highly recomend it.
