They modified the rule a while ago to permit references to the ignore list in the Pit, as Dex explains here.

That used to happen to me also, then a few years ago I started using the “New Posts” button instead of just going through the forums (that I liked). Now I never have any idea what forum I’m in. On the one hand, I don’t know what the rules are for various forums, but OTOH, as a poster I don’t tend to tread near them anyways.
What I like about is where in the past I missed a lot of threads since I stayed out of GD, The PIT and ATMB, now I rarely miss a thread I might enjoy. I just have to double check what forum I’m in if the topic could go either way.
