Nov '04 Election Comments Thread

WI goes Kerry. Milwaukee carried him. Waukesha county and the other republican counties are pretty much accounted for. You can put WI in the Blue.

Why does this have to be left vs. right? I voted against Bush because I hate BUSH, not republicans.

Howyadoin,

When the 2000 election hung by a thread, some assumed that all the whining and bitching on both sides was inspired by the narrow margin of victory. We now see that was untrue. Modern-day American candy-asses have been indoctrinated to bitch and whine any time things don’t go their way, regardless of conditions.

No matter who wins or loses, the country remains divided, dancing and dueling like a pair of Punch & Judy marionettes, riding the strings being pulled by the spin masters. If you believe MoveOn or DemocraticUnderground, you are a puppet. Same thing if you believe NewsMax or WorldNetDaily.

Dance, my pretties, dance… There will be plenty of violins to provide accompaniment. Some soaring, some sobbing. All carrying strings of their own.

[B[Loch** buddy we know what you’re saying, and I’m not saying you’re wrong.
But the winners can’t bitch about the officiating, at least not IMHO

Touche!

Brokaw isn’t even trying to be impartial.

Right. Except that I have consistently predicted this event, bet money on it, been ridiculed for it, and remained steadfast in my conviction for over 30 months.

I sure gave a good impression of certainty, didn’t I?

You’ve had to take absolutely nothing; you choose to read what you want. Bush is an evil man, and I don’t know what act of Satan allowed such a decisive victory, but I think that given a more active Democratic campaign, it would be a clear win in the other direction. That’s really great that you predicted it last year, but you know what? No one cares. Really. Smile at yourself in the mirror, pat yourself on the back, but none of that matters to anyone but yourself.

My request was that you shut up here. I don’t give a crap if you start 10,000 threads about how prophetic you are, but I’ll exercise the same right you had – to not read them. I do read this thread, however, as do a lot of people who I’m sure have no desire to see this turn into a “congratulate me” party.

That’s the way I’m betting too, but it’s a tight race. Tighter than it looked an hour ago.

I can’t even figure out how to use the quote function. I’m the poster-boy for all stupid Republicans. :smack:

Not around often but when you do show up you bring the heat, good post. Good point.

Nope. The Democractic party, which was unable to accomodate the Nader voters, bears all the blame. Assuming, of course, that Bush wins.

Thanks much!

Next time – courage of your convictions!

There’s an unintentional accuracy in this statement perhaps…looking at the map I’m still struck by the geography…blue is kinda pushed out to the edges…

Lighten up Caphis. You’re sounding like a secular doomsayer. You lost, try to do so with some grace and class like most other posters are.

Ya. Unlike you with your ‘Bush is evil’ glurge in this thread.
Bush - Fuck Yeah!

What i can’t figure out is with all the ranting and raving by vocal ABB’ers about how much Bush has been frelling up the country, i got the feeling that Bush had reason to be worried, it seems that almost everyone i’ve spoken with thought that Bush was a dribbling moron

yet, the current results seem to bear out the fact that his “silent” majority had a lot more pull than the browbeating ABB’ers

personally, i’m a Republican, but don’t hold that against me, i broke from party lines, held my nose and cast my vote for Kerry, personally, i’ve not been impressed with Bush, but i’m not going to get into that here, this isn’t the thread for it

it looks like Bush has this one in the bag, it was a good fight, but he won, lets move on and deal with the results, throwing a temper tantrum won’t help anything

and lets hope that both parties return to their roots for the next election

And I suppose whooping up and down shouting about how you called it a year ago is a classy way to win, eh?

Well, I maintain that Bush is basically evil (i.e intellectually deficient and/or morally bankrupt, and completely incapable of responsible leadership. Just because the small majority voted for him doesn’t make them right.

Well genius, until a very few hours ago, it was for all intents and purposes a statistical tie. Congratulations. You “called” it. The Democrats on the board “called” it. One of you had to be right, and up until this afternoon you could flip a coin and have the same chance of being correct as you do.

Well, the Democrats lost the last election, and now they’ve also lost this one. But poor persecuted little you has had to “take it” for the past four years. What makes you think the the center/left-leaning part of the SDMB will suddently lie down and “take their turn.” Now they’ll be four more miserable years full of Bush screw-ups to criticize.

Bricker, congratulations. You seem like a very good guy and I understand where you’re coming from. You called this one right and this Board skews the other way. Unfortunately less cool heads here heap you in with some others who I have less than sympathetic feelings for. I’m sorry for that. Truly.

That said, a 52-53% vs 47-48% victory hardly shows that the left is marginalized. Perhaps less fervent, disorganized, and lacking as common a goal as some of the things that Rove and Hughes have used to get out the votes. And from a purely tactical standpoint you have to hand it to the RNC. They really did a great job in energizing their base.

If this were all it was to it then I could go to sleep tonight and sleep easy. Just different Americans viewing the game from a slightly different angle. But there are just too many “boogymen” floated out by the RNC that make my blood run cold. Things that are truly divisive and don’t have a future in bringing the country back together. George W. Bush said, during the 2000 campaign, that he was “a uniter, not a divider”. So far I’ve not seen that. I hope to see it more in the future. Otherwise I fear the path this country is taking.*
*FWIW, I’d have similar fears if Kerry were to have won. But at least it would be a jog back across the centerline. I personally prefer a moderate country, not when we run to extremes.

Iowa is now looking like it might go to Bush. He’s opened up a 4,000 vote lead with over 90% reporting.

May I make a humble suggestion, speaking as a foreigner who hasn’t had a government he approves of in power for most of his adult life? Take a pill. Chill out. The world didn’t end. Take a break from politics if you’re spitting mad. Focus on your family, your hobbies.

And you might try realizing that half your country isn’t made up of drooling idiots, but people who have honest disagreements about policy. You’re stuck with Bush for four more years - you can spend it whining and kicking, or you can try to understand the other side for a change. That doesn’t mean you have to vote Republican, but you could at least consider being civil and understanding about your differences.

It’d be a nice change.

ABC now thinks Kerry will carry OH. At least Peter Jennings just said that.
