Trump retweets the racially charged messages of bigots. Let me quote Bernie Sanders:

If people are thinking about violence, please do not tell anybody you are a Bernie Sanders supporter, because those are not the supporters that I want…

That’s how it’s done. It’s routine for Presidential candidates to distance themselves from wackos. Trump doesn’t do that. Bernie did.
I praise Hillary Clinton for keeping things factual. Here’s what she said:

From the start," Clinton said, “Donald Trump has built his campaign on prejudice and paranoia. He’s taking hate groups mainstream and helping a radical fringe take over the Republican Party. His disregard for the values that make our country great is profoundly dangerous.”

This is absolutely accurate. Contrast Trump with Pete Wilson, who ran for Governor of California making a deliberate and vocal distinction between legal and illegal immigrants. Yes, that was a figleaf. But he was trying to distance himself from bigotry. Characterizing Mexicans as rapists without apology is something else.
The US has dealt with demagogues before. Huey Long. George Wallace. They typically flame out. The problem is that the rest of us have to sweep up the debris later: they leave an ugly legacy. This discussion of the Alt-right will prove helpful after Clinton is elected President and Republicans ask themselves what happened to the party of Lincoln.
I’ve never understood the whole Republucan hatred of Robert Byrd. IMHO Byrd is the epitome of someone who saw the error of his ways, was genuinely repentant, and genuinely worked towards ending racism and helping minorities. But Republicans attack him and the Democrats who worked with him for being hypocritical. It’s like they have no room in their party for someone who genuinely repudiates an evil position they once held and works to undo the damage done when they held that position. Despite his past as a KKK member, I have far more trust that Robert Byrd from the 1990s and 2000s was a lot less racist than people like David Duke, Steve Bannon, and others like them are today.
I really hope it is considered smart and ballsy. And to think he blames a faulty earpiece on his “I don’t know about white supremacists” answer in an interview. What a fucking idiot. I had to grow up near Atlantic City when he started ruining it and everything around it. The way Trumpy Wumpy talks tells me I shouldn’t even buy a used vacuum cleaner from him, let alone vote for him. His voters are only turned on by his wealth and his family history of racism. Hell, Woody Guthrie even wrote songs about the racist Trumpy Daddy.
I can only hope after he loses by an astounding margin, Trumpy U. forces him to lose money and then he shoots himself. If he even does shoot himself, he will posthumously not pay the bill for the gun and bullets. Well, that’s expected anyway.
Racism is an issue in this election because Donald Trump made it one. Both through the things he said directly and because he has refused to disavow himself from Racist organisations.
And for fucks sake Trump is the master of attacking people on appearance, on silly nick names, using completely false claims about their positions, and on everything else EXCEPT issues and policies. What do you expect? Turn about is fair play.
You forgot attacking disabled people. And women. And country of origin… And this is what he thinks makes America great again. All this from a non-politician who knows nothing about politics.
Part of me hopes Mike Pence writes a book about this election experience quicker than Trumpy Wumpy’s ghost writers do.
In fact, in many respects, you know they honour Candidate Trump, The KKK is honouring Candidate Trump. He is the founder of the KKK. He is the founder of the KKK. He’s the founder. He founded the KKK.
I’m not sure it’s productive anyways. The people who voted for Robert Byrd are quickly becoming Republicans. If it wasn’t for Appalachian ex-Democrats, Trump would have even fewer electoral votes in the bag.
This is one of her best appearances. A clear message of unification at the end, a positive message to finish on and a clear spelling out piece by piece of Trump’s message of hate and divisiveness. She still has awkward pauses and nods her head too much when waiting for applause to finish but she’s got much better.
However I think apart from Breitbart which is directly relevant because he’s the new campaign manager, I don’t think she should have directly named the sources for other of Trump’s “inspirations”, you can bet that both the supremacist tweeter she mentioned and conspiracy retard Alex Jones will get big boosts in listenership, because if Clinton condemns them then they must be telling the truth :smack: She could have just quoted from them instead and said “a well known conspiracy nut” etc etc
Maybe because Byrd did repent, unlike the other Southern racist Democrats, and didn’t become a Republican after 1964, again unlike the other Southern racist Democrats.
I would really like to thank you for pointing this out - might have missed it otherwise.
I thought she did a masterful job pointing out the bleeding obvious - Trump is stoking racial hatreds among some nasty folks in order to get elected. The lunatics have taken over the Republicans. Everyone knows it. She has just said it out loud.
Forget about the Klan. Trump kept black people from renting his apartments in the 1970s. Trump didn’t want a black man doing his accounting in the casino. Trump’s people hid black workers when he visited.
Trump is a racist. Deal with it.
BTW, what policies of his should we be discussing? Besides building the wall that is. I’m quite lost about whether he wants to let undocumented immigrants stay or kick them out. He’s flip-flopped several times in the last few days. His laughable economic policies? The ones Citibank said will lead to a recession? The ones that cause no living member of the Council of Economic Advisers - Republican or Democrat - to support him?
Don the Con is a baboon, with apologies to the baboons.
Yes and also when she gave specific examples of Dole, W and McCain disavowing racism. Holy crap, I never thought I’d see a Republican nominee who makes W look like a capable sensible tolerant President, but damn Trump has achieved that.
