Now is not the time to come together as Americans

I’ll hazard a guess that Waymore was not anticipating this reaction to his off-the-cuff remark.

Not “remark”: Zinger! A devastating and clever comeback from which madmonk may never recover. Look, he’s reeling!

Look, Trump is going to be president. Nothing’s going to change that. The Electoral College isn’t going to revolt, Obama isn’t going to orchestrate a coup, you’re not going to wake up tomorrow and this was all a dream. Those are the facts of the situation as they stand. I’m not happy that Trump will be president, but just because I don’t like the results doesn’t mean I get to ignore them.

That means we have to decide how we want to move forward in Trump’s America. Are we going to spend the next four years wailing and gnashing our teeth about how it wasn’t supposed to be this way, while Othering his supporters and declaring that they’re all sheep and their opinions don’t matter? That will accomplish nothing, just as it accomplished nothing in 2004. Or are we going to stand up for what we believe in and do everything we can to convince those who voted for Trump to turn in a different direction? Because that can accomplish everything, just as it did in 2008.

So I just now got done watching a video my colleague posted on Facebook. In it an angry white man makes reference that Trump has been elected and says “we’re in America, when are you leaving? Have you even heard of deodorant?” To a young man of color in a University of Maryland shirt.

So how do I come together with this Trump voter? How do I work with him to build a better America? I ask because he seems like a hate filled bigot who needs to be called out and resisted. There are incidents like this all over the country and they are only going to get worse.

Instead of asking me what resistance looks like, perhaps you could explain to me what coming together with these supporters looks like?

madmonk, clearly the answer is to pretend that bigoted man is an aberration, an outlier, or better yet, a poor, misunderstood, and unfairly maligned victim of the post-Industrial Age economy. The election has helped this downtrodden fellow finally find his voice, you see, and he simply wants to be heard and listened to and empathized with. As losers in this bloody war, Dems must–must, I say–hold this gentleman’s hand and figure out what he wants…and then market a message that appeals to these wants. It’s really the only way.

The black guy that he insulted? Sucks to be him, I know. But he needs to put aside his desire for respect and dignity and start considering himself collateral damage in the Dem’s War to Win Elections. His feelings are optional at this point, as they pretty much have always been when white votes are on the line. If poor disaffected Trump supporters are going to be heard and listened to and understood, we can’t have black people calling them racist when they act like racists. Because that’s not nice and liberals must be nice at all costs.

Now, I can hear your retort already. “The election was lost because people like that black guy didn’t turn out as anticipated. If we ignore how he’s been dissed and try to act like his wants and needs are of lesser importance than the guy abusing him, aren’t we setting ourselves up for another upset in 2020 when he stays home again come Super Tuesday?” And to that I say, you have a good point. And yet, against all common sense and sanity, I still say we should fixate on rural conservatives. If our electoral college setup tells us anything, it’s that their lives matter more than anyone else’s. BLM, notwithstanding.

I am sure he is consulting with his masters right now on the best response.

I guess you need to agree with this Trump supporter that dark-skinned people are stinky and should leave the country now. Or maybe meet his reasonable opinion half way?

… and why we should even WANT to.

Everything was Obama’s fault. Everything bad that ever happened in the history of the world. Those of us who were watching saw which ones were bragging about literally shutting down the government, were becoming the "Party Of No’ and were obstructing everything they could.

They support him, he re-tweeted their messages, he appointed Bannon - a white nationalist - to chair his campaign. I’m still waiting for him to disavow them - or say anything.

I linked that as an example of his core and most viral constituency.

But there’s more…

Lie down with dogs …

When we see a Trump supporter break a beer bottle over a Muslim’s head we need to come together with him. True, that’s a little hard for the Muslim, but once we get him stitched up I’m sure he’ll agree its for the greater good. After all, if we’re going to have the peaceful transfer of power with a violent, racist movement, we’re going to have to be extra peaceful.

When that day comes, I have just TWO words of advice for you…
No witnesses

With that jackass you don’t. Just like you shouldn’t be thrilled you have violent anarchists on the progressive left. I’m sure there are many videos posted on many sites where Democrat voters are abusing people.

Oh, here’s one now. http://www.cnn.com/videos/politics/2016/11/12/chicago-man-attacked-beaten-you-voted-trump-orig-vstop-dlewis.cnn

Who said we were???

That jackass represents a big chunk of Trump voters.

The violence committed in the name of protesting Trump is deplorable. It must be condemned and perpetrators prosecuted. It certainly seems there is much less of it coming from the left, the incident you linked to is the one people point to every time a new violent act by Trump supporters is reported.

Do like the POP* has been doing for the last generation and put the party before America?

The Democrats have been acting like adults. The POP petulant children. Need I remind you of government shut downs and a credit rating downgrade?

I do hope the Democrats use the filibuster with great restraint and simply vote no on all the really stupid stuff the POP wants to pass and be on record for their reasons on no votes.

Oh, and at Trump’s State of the Union addresses, shout “YOU LIE!” only when he actually does. That should limit the shouting to twenty or thirty times.

*POP = Party of Pepe - the white supremacist frog.

All the violence is inexcusable, but saying someone is stinky is not even a crime. Beating and kicking someone is. I can post more videos of left wing violence but what’s the point? You know they exist but it’s your tribe doing the beating so why worry?

I gotta ask, octopus, why do you think you need to bullshit about what “liberals” are willing to allow from “our side”? Yeah, there’s been rioting and incidents of violent behavior in the name of anti-Trumpism or even progressivism. This is anathema to progressives, and we’re forced to say that every time.

“We” very prominently shut down violent rhetoric on “our” side, “our” candidates make inclusiveness a rallying call, “our” President came to prominence with a “there’s no red or blue American, there’s only America” speech, and he campaigned that way and he tried to govern that way. Our latest candidate for President based her campaign on being “stronger Together” and made it very clear in speech after speech that this included all Americans regardless of political stripe.

Answering the real and obvious actual racist talk, racist campaign promises, racist staff selections and racist past of the Trump campaign with stories of “liberal violence” is bullshit.
