It wasn’t much of a surprise; they’ve been together for 7 years. His fiance knew he was proposing, but not when and how. He definitely put some thought into it. We knew he was having a ring specially made, an without us knowing had it sent down here when he was visiting. Meanwhile, his girlfriend had gone with a friend to a writers’ retreat an hour or so from where they live. Instead of going home last Sunday he went to where his gf and her friend were staying (the friend was in on it) and proposed. He’d gotten poster board and written the proposal on it. Friend photographed the whole thing. He did call us and let us know right after. Wedding won’t be until fall 2027, so they have plenty of time. They’re only 25, so there’s no hurry.
