MAGAs aren’t known for their ability to discern reality from parody. They also have cartoonishly ridiculous views about AOC. Who could have predicted that letting anyone have a blue check for money would cause confusion?
Heh, that’s true enough
For the sake of completeness that list must include things like heart surgery and cancerous tumor removal . . . but I’m quite certain we’ll hear that those are different for reasons.
Note: Musk said “irreversible” changes. Those of us who’ve been around long enough will remember the Tug Ahoy and the great Jack Dean Tyler.
Are hair plugs irreversible changes? I remember when Elon was balding. What if he regrets having hair in the future? What then?
There’s a level of nitpicking and textualism that seems just as unreasonable as anything Musk has ever said. So while I’m not particularly on Musk’s side in any of this, I feel like it’s more reasonable to assume that he was talking about cosmetic procedures and nothing past that.
He is talking about therapy too - the thing that saved the life of more than one kid I know. Stop apologizing for him.
In Sage_Rat’s defense, there has never been a position he hasn’t been in favor of being on both sides of.
I am in love with the parody AOC account.
In the Pit, the average personality subtype seems to be one that’s either all love or all hate, with no nuance. If the goal is to pile on to John Wayne Gacy, then you’re a bad person and apologizer for saying that Gacy had no part in the murder of John F Kennedy. (He had no part in the murder of JFK.)
I generally believe that if you feel the need to make up BS to attack someone, and can’t attack them for things that they actually, truthfully did, then you’re not confident in your position. You just want to be with the in-crowd and throw shit down the cliff with them.
That’s not sufficient.
I was addressing a discussion of how to read his statement on surgery. Nothing more and nothing less. And, I’ll note, in that discussion I was negative on what Musk said.
We don’t need to imagine things that he didn’t say to dump on him. There’s enough real stuff there to complain about. Why waste effort on fake stuff?
So, you think Elon wants to criminalize circumcision?
Or are we safe in assuming that Elon, and Peterson, only want to criminalize a very narrow set of surgeries?
Do I think Elon would like to criminalize a custom most closely associated with Jews and Muslims? No comment.
I’m not imagining anything. He said “absolutely” to a tweet that therapists should receive long prison sentences, “no parole, no mercy.” This was in the same conversation he said he would pursue criminalization of surgeries.
You might wish to ignore the bit about therapists. But don’t then try to portray yourself as some brave defender of the little man who is being unfairly maligned.
They didn’t. They were responding to what he said. You were the one who argued that he didn’t literally mean it, claiming we were being unfair.
And you miss the point. Maybe he didn’t mean to leave out life-giving surgeries. But that’s what he said. This is common for bigots, where they hate minorities so much that they don’t realize their comment would also apply to people or things they care about.
So even if he didn’t mean the full extent of what he said, he’s so bigoted that didn’t occur to him. It still makes sense to call him out for what he actually said.
Necrophiliac!
You’re the one who is making assumptions about what Elon actually means, then dump on people who “need to make up BS”, people who are responding to exactly what Elon said.
Elon is talking about wanting to make laws. Do you understand that you have to nitpick laws? What is in the letter of a law matters. If Elon is advocating a nonspecific law, then he’s advocating a shitty, dangerous law.
But do you know why Elon isn’t being specific? Because he doesn’t know what the fuck he’s talking about. He’s not a medical professional. He doesn’t know the science. He is not involved in the treatment of children. He’s a wealthy manchild with a big platform spouting bullshit. Potentially dangerous bullshit that advocates for bigotry which is actively harming people, especially children.
Your attempts to be the voice of reason just had you step on a rake, Sideshow Bob style.
No, I think he said something dumb without thinking it through. I just didn’t read any larger belief into his statement than that.
But, it would at least be an arguable position if he did want to take it.
If you try to argue that transgenderism is a popular fantasy then all the arguments you would use against it will butt up against other common popular fantasies that lead people to body modification - and which are protected by the first amendment.
I’ll also note that in some decades, I won’t be surprised if Musk is trying to sell neuralink implants to children so…
The head of brand safety and ad quality has also quit over Elmo’s desire to use his employees as pawns in his culture-war-fueled grudge against his ex.
