Now that Elon Musk has bought Twitter - now the Pit edition (Part 1)

MUSK VS ZUCK

ENTER THE NO LIKES ZONE

(Plus some more shit so Discourse gets off my ass.)

This is insane. People are seriously discussing a cage match between two of the richest men on the planet. The theory that we are living in a simulation is getting more reasonable every day. :upside_down_face:

Well, if the audience is extremely easily entertained, I guess? I mean, do we think that such a “match” would produce any demonstration of martial technique that would be actually interesting to watch?

Is there any reason to want to watch two extremely rich men making asses of themselves in an unskillful public demonstration of childish antagonism, other than the fact that they’re extremely rich and appear from their public personae to have unpleasant personalities? Unless you assume that the mere fact of being extremely rich automatically makes it interesting to spectate anything the rich person does, I can’t see what the audience appeal would be.

But he can carry a sink while doing it!

I really doubt anyone is discussing it seriously.

To mock them? To see at least one of them suffer?

I mean, why would I NOT want to watch Elon Musk get punched in the face?

Are you not entertained?

Celebrity Boxing is a real thing.

I still remember when Screech of Saved by the Bell fought Horshack. It was a real thing that actually happened. It wasn’t a fair fight because of the age difference, IMO.

Feels weird to root for Zuck.

Who won?

It’s a thing rich people do when they’re in trouble. See also Logan Paul after that incident with the suicide forest in Japan.

And the programmer took the brown acid.

Holy shit, I’m glad that flew under my radar and I’d never heard about it.

Looks like Screech did.

One of the more ill-fated attempts at reality television occurred in 2002, when Fox rounded up a collection of sideshow celebrities and paired them off in a boxing ring. It was called Celebrity Boxing , and it aired just twice that year, on Wednesday-night slots two months apart, before the plug got mercifully pulled. The final show — which was originally going to feature a main event between John Wayne Bobbitt and Joey Buttafuoco, but ended up reseeding Buttafuoco against pro wrestling’s Chyna after Bobbitt was arrested on domestic violence charges — was on May 22, 2002, 15 years ago today.

Yeah… holy shit I’m glad this went under my radar.

Dustin Diamond (Screech) won. At the time of the fight, Ron Palillo (Horshack) was 53 years old, and Diamond was 25. Diamond was also 5 inches taller and was a professional wrestling fan, and dabbled in it as an amateur, as well as being trained in karate. Palillo on the other hand was a high school teacher, illustrator, and playwright.

As I said, it wasn’t a fair fight.

If you’re interested in watching it, here is a clip, though it was a short fight (it lasted about a minute). It was clearly a mismatch and had no value beyond the “Screech vs Horshack” novelty.

If you’ve been reporting the same ones I have, the response has been to inform me those twits have not been violating the terms of service and for me to suck it up.

Reposting to fix my broken link;

I’d watch it, but I’d really dislike myself afterwards.

But, I won’t pay for it. I’m waiting until it shows up on YouTube or something.

Google isn’t in the ring. I’m guessing the winner would be the one to get to host the video.

In terms of who I would want to win, I feel like there’s some chance that Musk is basically suffering from too little sleep, depression, being out $40b, etc. and handling that all poorly. Zuckerberg’s only excuse is that his job is to make money, not friends, and he’s doing that well.

But the desire to make money is shortsighted if you’re destroying your own home in the process. And if you say that, if you stop doing the badness then someone else will, that ignores that there could be regulations, laws to support the hiring of moderators, etc. It’s just a matter of championing all of that.

I’d prefer that Zuck loses. But I wouldn’t mind if they both did.
