Micro-managing the bejesus out of Twitter might be the perfect job for a man of his talents.
Thinking more on this, some of the blowhards on the Dope who complain about moderators arbitrarily and unfairly targeting them and their ilk are either silent or support moderation that is actually entirely arbitrary and unfair when it comes from one of their idiot man-child messiahs.
I’d say that was ironic except nobody’s remotely fooled by their antics.
Ah but, you see, having the decision made by an individual genius in response to whatever gets his attention just now (and it is important because it gets his attention) is superior to having a decision made by a faceless corporate body based on a standardized set of rules made in response to the market.
Or something like that.
Even worse. Another forum of mine has a similar thread, except Musk is basically Flash Gordon, Savior of the Universe, and no moderation was the goal. In response to West’s ban, we’re getting “Hey, he’s the CEO, he can ban who he wants.”
Hope those goalposts are made of really stiff stuff. Otherwise they’re gonna get whiplash careening all over the map like that.
LawyerTwitter was having a good chortle over this.
But I bet Anglin never posted anything mean about Musk so it’s okay.
…just looking at Elon’s Twitter feed right now: looks like he’s buying into every single conspiracy theory around, from Hunter Biden and the laptop, to how Twitter played favourites with the Brazil elections.
On the surface: if he wants to believe outlandish nonsense like this, then it wouldn’t matter that much.
But what he’s done with the Hunter Biden stuff should have everyone (who is still on Twitter) worried. Because he gave sensitive documents to a partisan reporter for the purposes of a hit-piece. And that reporter also ended up accidentally publishing the private email addresses of a couple of high profile people.
There is no reason to believe that he won’t further than that. Your DM’s are not safe. Elon will be poking around everything to see what dirt he can dig up. And well, the implications of that are nightmarish.
On another note: anecdotally, if I keep my browsing to the timeline view everything seems to be quite normal. If I click the home view I’m seeing a lot of suggested posts from people I’m politically aligned with, so that isn’t broken yet.
But if I venture out of my “safe-space”, for example I went to check out the hashtag for the TV show Willow, I encountered more blatant antisemitism than I ever have before on the platform, and a not insignificant amount of porn.
And anything Elon Musk related is absolutely flooded with Trolls and Bots.
Not my words, but they’re great: Elon Musk is like if you took a cartoon or comic evil billionaire supervillain but gave them no charisma, smarts, goals, or literally anything that made them interesting. He’s fuggin’ Less Luthor.
Elon Musk is the Mike Lindell of Geraldo Riveras.
That was a literal LOL
Edit summary spotted on Wikipedia:
Elon has restored integrity and trust to twitter (sic)
The article about the New York Post, if anyone’s interested.
It seems the Disciples of Elon are trying to restore the same sort of integrity and trust (i.e. all BS all the time) to wiki.
Hint: that’s not an improvement.
That long Hunter Biden thread about how Twitter was so nice to him had one, literally one, post that said that there was literally zero evidence of government interference.
Just a quick note that our resident Sealion has been totally absent since this thread was moved to the Pit. Maybe, just maybe, we can make him go away by, and I’m just spitballing here, ignoring him when he shows up in other threads.
There was some comedy value there. What’s the proper response when the worlds richest man declines to meet his payroll obligations? For our fanboy troll, it’s immediately dropping to his knees and smothering Musk’s flabby, pimply ass with loving kisses. How can you not laugh?
They ARE moderating content. People get banned every single day.
Are they consistent about it? No, but they never were.
The previous leadership made the attempt to be consistent and listened to input from the EU and other countries. I think the new CEO doesn’t appear as receptive. Instead, he just shouts “they hate free speech” and demands they pay for advertising…
