The thing is when you are Elon Musk solopism kind of sort of makes sense. I mean which is more likely that out 8 billion people you happened to be the richest person in the world which molds itelf to cater to your every need, or that it is all some sort of mind trip that you are having on your own.

Well, in the sense she apparently believed it was possible. She was apparently very smitten, and very willing to believe all the nonsense he said. And wanted to keep on believing after they broke up.
But then the custody battle started, and she became a prominent hater. Even started supporting his trans daughter. I actually wonder if his growing hatred for her was part of Grimes’s disillusionment with him.
Surely at least one of his beleaguered legal team has said “You know what a lot of rich guys do? Become recluses. But that’s the tragedy of Elon Musk - he doesn’t actually want to be a rich guy. He wants to be a rock star, or a movie star, or sports star, but he doesn’t have any real talent except a talent for making money. For most people, that would be more than enough, but not for him. It would be sad if it weren’t so funny, and it would be funny if it weren’t so terrifying.
And we’re not really sure how much of a talent he really has for making money.
Once you have a certain amount, it kind of makes itself. There’s the example of MacKenzie Scott (Jeff Bezos’ ex-wife) who gave away tens of billions to charity only to still find herself wealthier than when she started.

True story: in 2008 I made an imprudent comment about George W. Bush in an AOL chatroom, and as a result two Secret Service agents showed up at my work and interrogated me in the parking lot for half an hour. They eventually told me they didn’t believe I was a threat and no charges would be filed, but that I’m probably never going to be able to qualify for a government security clearance, which suits me just fine.
