G-mail is Google’s web-based mail system. You get 1000 MB of free storage. I haven’t gotten any spam at all so far, and I’ve had my account for a few months. There are no banner ads to clutter up the page; instead, Google shows a few sponsored links that match the words in the subject of your e-mail (I think)–these are similar to the sponsored links you get on the right side of the screen when you do a Google search. This is where words fail me, because I’m no technophile, but it just seems to work better than other web-based mail systems I’ve used (Hotmail, Yahoo, my university e-mail…); it’s more user-friendly and manageable.
It’s invitation-only at this point; you can’t just go register.
Maybe someone more enlightened will explain more.
