Thank god, because I’d heard about her disappearance last night, and was ready to pound my head against the wall. I am so heartened to hear one of these stories with a positive ending!
Caught the story on this morning’s news. Now I’d like to read the follow up which looks at what kinds of things this little girl’s parents had taught her about protective behaviours - whatever they taught her, it clearly paid off in this case (although, suggestions in this morning’s report that the kidnapping might have been a “payback” of some kind are disturbing).
I felt the same way, Rilchiam. Erica Pratt acted like what adults are supposed to act like and too often, don’t. Let’s also praise the kids who helped Erica out of the building and went to tell the police. I understand that the police have the names of the jerks who did this and that it’s just a matter of time until they are caught.
There was a similar scary close-call here in the Bay Area a few months ago. Apparently some guy had kidnapped a girl and tossed her in his trunk. Then while he was driving down the highway the girl managed to somehow open the trunk from the inside and had the presence of mind to grab the lid before it flew up and hold it down so the driver wouldn’t notice. A woman driving behind him saw her and followed until he slowed down enough for her to jump out. They called for help from a pay phone near Livermore Labs and the cops tracked him down from his license plate. He was sitting at home watching TV a half hour later like nothing had happened!
