I’m thinking of the miners, of course. It’s so wonderful to have GOOD news.
Assuming this news has affected you in somewhat the same way it has me (picture a big sobby-with-happiness bodypoet puddle here–okay, maybe I’m a little hormonal), what other news stories delivered such jubilant news?
I remember when they brought baby Jessica out of the well. That still makes me tear up…

I was going to say the exact same thing, about Jessica. I can still remember reading the words of one of the people involved, telling the guy who was pulling when they were pretty much at the last possible chance, “Break her leg if you have to but GET HER OUT.”
Sadly, I believe the guy who pulled her out killed himself a few years later.
I think you’re right–it seems like his depression may have been related to the rescue somehow, but I might be wrong.
Other happy stuff:
That little girl who was kidnapped recently and escaped!! What a tremendous relief that must have been for her parents and neighborhood.
Locally, a couple of years ago a teenage girl was abducted by two men she worked with. They ended up several states away, and somehow put the car in a ditch. Luckily, the car had some kind of safety feature that prevented it starting right away after an accident. While the men were trying to get it started, a police officer stopped to offer assistance, noticed the girl was acting nervous, and talked to her alone. She told him she’d been kidnapped and raped, and he was able to take the kidnappers in.
Here’s the scary part: The kidnappers admitted that their plan was to drive to Florida (I could have the state wrong, not sure) and KILL HER THERE. I guess they were too honest to say they planned to let her go.
