NPR looking for "ideal romantic song"

You know you want to vote!

I had to go with Nat “King” Cole’s “Stardust.”

Good one! I chose Tupelo Honey by Van Morrison.

I picked “The Harold Song” by Kesha.

“At Last” by Etta James.

I’ll pick an obvious one: “Something” by the Beatles. “God Only Knows” is my other off-the-cuff choice, but that was mentioned in the article.

“The Search Is Over”, by Survivor.

Seconded!

“Someone to Watch over Me” by Ella Fitzgerald.

(Mine will be the only submission for) I’ll Get By (As Long as I Have You), released right as the Great Depression began.

I picked “Volverás” by Ricky Martin, but “Never My Love” by The Association would be a close second.

The Way You Look Tonight.

“Hold That Tiger!”?

Yep. And **“Let’s Stay Together” **by Al Green.

or “All The Things You Are”. Both by Jerome Kern

“Today” Jefferson Airplane

“Maybe I’m Amazed,” by Paul McCartney.

I semi-trolled the poll with “Messages” by OMD, which straddles the line between romantic and cynical, but definitely does not fall into the “happy endings” category. If you define “romance” as “passion”, then yes, it does have romance in it, but its message is that sometimes long-separated people do not get back together again.

Although technically it might still be considered a romantic song regardless, because atmospheric New Wave is sometimes called “New Romantic”.

I went with Irving Berlin’s “Always.”

“Unchained Melody” by the Righteous Brothers.
