With Valentine’s Day coming up, what do you think is the most romantic song of all time? I’ve been challenged to write a short story for Valentine’s Day, I want to center it round a song which one character sends another when they are apart. Any suggestions?
I’ve always liked Longer by Dan Fogelberg, Time In A Bottle by Jim Croce and Just the Way You Look Tonight by Jerome Kerns and Dorothy Fields.

I didn’t fully read your second sentence. How about Somewhere Out There by Linda Ronstadt and James Ingram. lyrics.

Most romantic song of all time?
Why, that’s easy.
“There’s no one quite like Grandma” by St. Winnifred’s School Choir.
Second - “The Birdie Song”.
“Je L’Aime a Mourir” - Francis Cabrel
“Something” - Beatles
Come What May. It was literally written for the purpose of communication when the lovers are apart.
These are all good, but my personal favorite is “Unchained Melody”. Gets me every time.
I would say “Things We Said Today” by the Beatles. This should work for what you are looking for
Certainly “Face Down, Ass Up” by 2 Live Crew must be in the top 5.
Ooh, if it didn’t have to be for a story about separated lovers, I would nominate Suddenly Seymour from Little Shop of Horrors. As it is, I will second Unchained Melody.
“I Love You” by the Climax Blues Band
Making Love Out of Nothing At All, Air Supply
The Search is Over, Survivor
Don’t Know Much, Linda Ronstat and Aaron Neville
If you Say My Eyes Are Beautiful, Whitney Houston and Jermaine Jackson
I think that “Screaming Infidelities” by Dashboard Confessionald is pretty good. At least my GF seems to think so, as to quote her:
“If you play that song for me, I will have sex with you.”
Theme from “Elvira Madigan”, Mozart, Piano Concerto Number 21 in C Major.
I think “I will be right there waiting for you” by Bryan Adams is a good one, it’s one of my favorite songs
I’ve always liked “To Make You Feel My Love” and “The Red Strokes,” both by Garth Brooks.
“In Your Eyes” by Peter Gabriel
“Oh My Love” by John Lennon
As Time Goes By.
I’ll third “Unchained Melody”.
