I just want to know what you think of it… i’m really not very well versed on how much power or how strong a following it really has.
This seems like it’s a good place to hear the opinions rather then just the answers.

Answers?! We don’t want no stinking answers!
I’m pretty sure this’ll be moved. But, maybe not. I don’t like the NRA cause they believe in certain forms of gun control. They believe that Cops should have more firepower than the rest of us. I disagree.
I am glad there is an NRA. I dont always agree with them, but they lobby for gun rights, and that is a good thing. Doesnt the person with the largest gun always win? cuz I gotta [gratuitus pit behavior]fucking[gratuitus pit behavior] howitzer in my front yard.
Ooooohhhh . . . I really do not want to be here when Alphagene finds another gun-related thread in his Pit.
I like the NRA. I’m a member. Though, I don’t agree with their official stance on 100% of the issues related to gun control, someone needs to fight the bastards who want to take my guns away.
(Actually, I don’t own any guns yet, but I will. <ominous music> if it’s not too late… </ominous music> )
The NRA, like any political organization (liberal or conservative) gets either demonized or canonized, depending on who you talk to. In reality, the truth is somewhere in-between.
Hope that helps.
I dislike the NRA for having Charlton Heston as a spokesperson.
Carry on.
I fully understand why the NRA fights every proposed gun law, even those that most people (NRA members included) think are a great idea. The longer they keep the anti-gun people (those who would not be happy until there is a total ban on privately owned firearms) fighting for laws that make sense and will probably get passed eventually, the longer it is before they have to fight oppressive gun laws. It’s the same thing with pro-choice organizations - as soon as they start giving in a little and allow certain abortions to be made illegal the anti-choice folks will move on to try and make even more illegal.
Hey, anyone that can make burning hail is okay in MY book…
Although it makes me wonder just WHY he needs a gun…
In my book… God isn’t as reliable as a .357 magnum.

Let’s just cut through to the eventual outcome of this thread:
Either:
A) The NRA is a bunch of kid-killing, slack-jawed troglodytes in search of penis substitutes.
or
B) They’re a fairly effective lobbying organization for their constituients, who believe in the Second Amendment
or
C) They’re the last bastion of hope and freedome in ** a world gone mad!**, standing firmly against the Commie-Nazi-Gun Grabbers
or
D) They’re a bunch of left-wing wimps who pretend to stand against gun-control, but cave at every turn. This isn’t surprising, since the NRA is a pawn of The New World Order!
Take yer pick.

The Charlton Heston “Al Gore and those Commie Lefties will take away YOUR Guns” radio ads were flat out hilarious. Some of the best laughs during the campaign.
He mentioned Charlton Heston as being the guy “who starred as Moses in The Nine Commandments.”
I nearly peed myself.
Hmmm…
My uncles and my cousins, all enthusiastic hunters and gun owners loathe the NRA. They say it just makes the gun owners look bad, causes more harm than good, and RUINS the arguments of rational gun owners. My cousin, probably the most conservative guy on the planet, said he can’t stand Charleton Heston. THAT was a shock to me.
But still, the guy’s an idiot. They’re hurting 2nd ammendment rights cause, not helping it.
They’re hurting 2nd ammendment rights cause, not helping it.
Really? Please explain this to me. Just what is the NRA actually doing that is detrimental to the 2[sup]nd[/sup] amendment. And by actually, I mean explain how any of their actions or policies are harmful, rather than simply giving me your (probably malformed and unjustified) impression. I suspect you don’t really know what it is the NRA actually does, or stands for.
UncleBeer, lemme see if I can call it.
She’ll say that they’re hurting the Second Amendment cause because “they oppose reasonable, common-sense restrictions on gun ownership. This makes people draw away from them. After all, you don’t need an AK-47 to go hunting. So why are you opposing the assault rifle ban/trigger locks/elimination of concealed carry laws/photo registration/testing? They’re reasonable restrictions.”
Feh.
Beer, I thought you of all people would know better. Man, Alpha’s gonna bust you . . .
No, what I was going to say was, “SOME of the NRA” make it look like the country is out to take away your guns, and they’re all commies, and it’s a massive conspiracy. The Heston types, that is.
Bear in mind, I’m just repeating what my cousin said-that
Charleton Heston is making every gun owner look like a McCarthy era nutcase. Which is hardly the case. I’m sure most members of the NRA aren’t like that.

Now tell us about your cousin.
I really hope this thread doesnt get moved because the real reason i posted it here in the Pit was so people could really bitch over the issue. The posts in other boards just don’t seem to have quite the venom one finds in here and that’s where the real opinions come into play. So i hope it stays here so i can find what i’m looking for.
Up here in Canada we’re having a bit of a stink over Gun Control and we really don’t have anything quite like what the NRA has become in the States.
I’m looking to see how passionate Americans really are over their gun control and wondering if an institution like the NRA would have enough clout to do any good up here…
Anyway, thanks for what Info i’ve gotten so far. (If we do get some NRA thing going on up here, does that mean i’ll have to listen to Heston bitch too? Cause keeping my guns just aint worth it…)
