nuvaring question

I went to my gynecologist today and got some free (yay!) samples of Nuvaring. I read the instructions on when to start it and since I’m on a combination pill now, and according to the instructions I’m supposed to wait until I finish that pack before I start the ring.

Dammit. I wanted to start it today. I’m only a week into my pill pack. So I’m wondering, why is it a big deal that I wait? Or are the nuvaring instructions based on the “every 28 days have a period” idea?

Those of you that are on “the ring”, did you wait or did your gyno say “oh, go ahead and start it, no big deal”?

Any gynecologists or others on this board that may know the reason?

thanks!
p.s. Am I spelling gynecologist right? cause it looks weird… :stuck_out_tongue:

IANAG, but my reading on the subject indicates that switching pills (which is essentially what you’re doing, since the ring most likely doesn’t have the same hormone balance as your current pill) mid-cycle can cause a lot of breakthrough bleeding, headaches, and nausea. Some women have a full-on period, with cramps and everything. Starting your ring today shouldn’t kill you, but it might make you wish you were dead.

Good point. I didn’t think about that! Guess I can wait… :stuck_out_tongue:

Are you on Orthotricyclen? It’s a different hormone than in the ring (I’m a ring user and I love it).

Finish your pill pack and then try the ring. This was my fifth stab at hormonal birth control and I no longer have cramps, bleeding or headaches. PMS out the wazoo, though, so watch for that.
