We now have Epsilon (which is being polite enough to stay well clear of land), and Zeta seems to be brewing.
And we’re at Eta, which is apparently even stronger than Laura was. Ugh.
If we get a Theta, it’ll be the most named storms in one season, passing up 2005.
I thought we already reached that point when Eta was named? Zeta was as far as we got in '05, right?
They missed a 2005 storm that should have been named, so they had 1 more than 21 named + 6 Greek would suggest.
Besides English and Spanish names, French names are also used for North Atlantic hurricanes (e.g. “Rene”, “Edouard”, “Helene”, and some names ending with “elle” or “ette”).
TS Theta is now live.
And as of last night we have Iota, for a running total of 30 named storms in the Atlantic season.
Only 15 more before they run out of Greek letters. The way this season’s going, that may not be enough.
today is the last official day of hurricane season but there have been storms in Dec. New season starts up June 1
