NY AG Letitia James drops the (civil) hammer {On Trump & Family} [9/21/2022]

going back in. round 2 about to begin.

CNN: “Trump is back in the courtroom, and live coverage continues after this.”

I just find it weird that this trial is brought to you by Dulcolax, Leqvio for cholesterol, and a window company.

Like … trials have sponsors?

Here you go. Note that the question asks about the Federal criminal trial, not about this civil trial.

(Split 3) As you may know, Donald Trump will face a federal criminal trial in March for his actions after the 2020 election. Do you think it is likely or unlikely that he will be convicted at the end of the trial?

CNN, paraphrased: “After the break, in response to the first question, a Yes/No question, Trump launched into a speech.”

If I was one of Trump’s lawyers at this point, I’d throw my hands up, say, “I quit,” and walk out. When you’ve got a client who refuses to listen to you, there’s no use in having your professional reputation tarnished any more than it needs to be.

Removed as beaten to sharing the poll question <

I found this on Fox’s website:

Kise, defending the former president, said the judge should want to hear everything the witness has to say.

“I don’t want to hear everything he has to say,” Engoron said.

Trump’s defense continued that it is “necessary, beneficial, and relevant to answer the questions in this manner.”

Trump attorney Alina Habba said Wallace “should try to ask better questions.”

“I’m not here to hear what he has to say…he goes into speeches,” Engoron said.

So it’s the prosecution’s fault for not asking good enough questions?

Trump testified that he authorized and gave preparers information that was necessary for those statements.

“I’m probably more expert than anyone else, so somneone would ask me and if I had opinion I would give it,” Trump said.

Did he just throw himself under the bus?

In a weird way, Trump has again hit a sweet spot that only benefits himself. If he’s penalized or rebuked for speaking, he can howl about being silenced. If he’s allowed to speak, he can babble about anything he likes to his adoring followers. No consequences will dent his popularity. I’m starting to despair that he may be invulnerable.

yes, he did indeed dive into the path of the bus.

which is what we all though he would do.

Jeez - was there a shot of the looks on his layers faces?

j

only if the sketch person’s fingers were racing.

Ooops - my misinterpretation of comments - thought it was actually televised.

j

it would be quite something if it was. right now only the georgia trial will be televised.

things have cooled down in the courtroom. the judge is stepping in a bit less.

Live updates on Trump’s testimony happening here:

A snippet from MSMBC’s coverage of the trial:

"State attorney Kevin Wallace asks Trump about his involvement in the 2021 statement of financial condition. Trump says his focus at that time was on China and Russia and “keeping our country safe,” drawing some laughs from the courtroom.

Wallace reminds him he wasn’t president in 2021. (Trump left office on Jan. 20, 2021.)"

mic drop!

they are on to the mar-a -lago of it all now.

“It’s a triplex, and I think they probably took 10,000 feet per floor…and they went times three,” Trump said.

But, “they didn’t take out elevator shafts,” Trump said of those who came up with the overblown-square footage.

those pesky elevators.

Oh, like superheroes really punch a clock.

So is it about linear vertical footage or is this about cubic footage?

Yeah. Hm.

And he didn’t say ‘actually, I was still president since the election was rigged blah blah blah’?

Where does he benefit though? Yes, he can howl about being silenced but the only people listening are going to be those who are Team Trump regardless of what he says or does. And the consequences are going to be the loss of his business empire even if it’s an empire built on lies. It might feel good for Trump to act like a baby, but he’s cutting off his nose to spite his face.

And did he calculate how much carpet would be needed to cover it all?
