Words kill, Gabriel. His words incite racial anger which leads to more violence, which leads to murder. Murder on account of one racist with a short temper.
I could successfully argue the fact that words kill more people than batteries, or guns, or sticks and stones. Use your God-given brain for a second, Gabriel.
Now, I’m still waiting for you to defend your statement that I quoted in the above post.
I’m am still trying to decide if you are serious or not.
If not…good one, you had me going. If so, this is fucking ultimately moronic. Do you have trouble following the plot on Dukes of Hazzard reruns? Guess what, shithead? PEOPLE kill, not words. If someone has enough screws loose to commit murder based on race, then John Rocker’s statements will not set them off anymore than the convenience store running out of Copenhagen. If I need to explain the conundrum of that to you, you really should find another board to call home.
(Wally, May I?)
Putz.

Unfortunately, words have more impact than anything else on civilization.
Ex. Individual hundreds upon hundred of Germans, one day, did not all decide to kill Jews and start a World War. Through the words of Hitler, twisted words, he found followers. Followers that KILLED for him. It sickens me that someone can believe that words don’t kill. Grow up. The worst atrocities committed in this world are on account of words.
What led me to believe that was statements like these:
So, if words are DIRECTLY responsible for murder, why aren’t people prosecuted for murder or manslaughter when they make racist and bigoted statements? After all, someone could hear what they say and that would MAKE them kill people. Right?
Yeah, I’ll get right on that. Please let me know when I have displayed enough maturity and logic to meet your standards.
I understand why John Rocker hates New Youk fans. Everybody hates New York (and Philly and Boston fans, too) because they’re jerks. You go play baseball in a place like Kansas City, they’re going to applaud you even though you’re the visiting team…or, at the very worst, they’ll boo you if you’re someone they really hate. But there will be no storm of batteries and coins, because people in the Midwest want to see a good game. We applaud opposing pitchers and batters who play well against our home club, though of course we cheer hard for the Royals to win.
I’m not surprised when players criticize New York fans. They deserve it. They’re a bunch of thugs, as far as most of the rest of the country is concerned.
I’ll take about HALF of whatever it is that you’re on. And I need to think before I type?
You have just shown me that this conversation is not worth continuing, as you can’t seem to remember what you fucking typed 24 hours ago. Nice talking with you.

Get up on the wrong side of the bed Alpha? Who said anything about watching a flaming, I put up the chair to see upstatic “successfully argue” that words kill more people than guns.
Look Skippy, you’ve already proven that your grasp of the English language and your ability to use logic are sub-par, at best. If you feel like you’ve “won” by saying I’m taking the easy way out, then more power to you.
I am well aware of what hyperbole is. I’m not so sure that you do. I would have never said anything to you at all if you were using hyperbole to begin with.
Paraphrasing (hopefully not butchering) a quote from Voltaire, “There is no sense in talking sense to a fool.”
Ruadh, got any more sauce over there?

While it may not pertain to John Rocker, there is prosecution for incitement to riot and, I believe, incitement to violence. And a couple of successful civil suits have been filed against hatemongerers whose words have resulted in someone’s death. So we do have laws that recognize the ability of words to lead to death.
Please accept this as my official protest on behalf of the fictional character Gomer Pyle. Gomer Pyle was a kind, innocent, big-hearted Marine who was generous to a fault and discriminated against no one. Just because was a rural American of simple mind, it is not fair to compare him to the noxious Rocker.
Did Rocker say anything at all that could be construed as violent, or that would lead to rioting?
I wasn’t aware of such laws that you mention. Can you point out any specific cases you refer to? I’d be interested to learn more. If you encourage violence and law breaking and someone is foolish enough to listen to you, I would like to think that the idiot who commits the crime would be solely responsible for his/her own actions (assuming they are playing with a full deck).
Now, Hitler was a longtime leader of a fascist government who brought his country out of economic trouble. He had mass support. Of course, I recognize that if a national leader with legions of supporters starts spouting off that group x or race y or religion z should be exterminated or persecuted, then we have a serious problem that should be dealt with.
OTOH, John rocker is an immature, uneducated hick. He didn’t say anything about violence, rioting, persecution, or murder. He simply voiced his (admittedly very stupid) opinion.
