NY and Baseball

I believe Peter Gammons said it correctly on SportsCenter last night. I too think that the fans in New York have to claim some responsibility for the Rocker fiasco.

I do not defend the man or his view points.

What I defend is baseball as a game.

The fans in New York (both Yankee and Shea) cursed at Rocker from pre-game warm-ups to the bullpen, and then to the mound. They tried to pour beer on him, they spat at him, they threw numerous things at him . . . including batteries. I’m no physics engineer, but I think a battery from the cheap seats could possibly kill a man with no football helmet on. Do you want to take the kids out to see this ? Drunken assholes who don’t respect the game anymore then they respect themselves ? Someone trying to physically injure a player ?

Wake up New York, the WWF comes from the south, and none of those things have ever happened at Fulton County or Turner Field. (Maybe we know to keep it fake.)

If the game is to be restored to the kids, and thus its basic element of fun . . . Rocker needs to shut up, and NY fans need to grow-up.

Yes Rocker was young, and way too intense and stupid, but the rant that got him so irrational in SI was when he was asked about NY fans. I propose he had reason to be pissed. Perhaps thats when he got stupid and began insulting (or perhaps “flaming”) whatever he could think of…

Rocker + NY fans = fire + gasoline.

Even still, baseball fans in NY need to stop behaving like uncivilized and mindless thugs. Oh, . . . . . . . and BITE me.

'Nuff said.

I say we settle this like ladies and gentlemen.

Put John Rocker and the New York City baseball fans together in a really big boxing ring, and let 'em fight it out between them.

Uke

I had no idea that NYC had a monopoly on rude crowd behavior.

Granted, throwing things is classless and criminal, but you are obviously blaming too many people for too many problems.

Did New Yorkers force him to make racist and homophobic comments? Nope. End of story.

As a New York Yankee fan, allow me speak for my brethren in saying fuck you, fuck your lame attempt to blame us for Gomer the Closer’s ignorance, and fuck whatever inferior team you root for.

Thank you.

Gypsy: Tom, I don’t get you.
Tom Servo: Nobody does. I’m the wind, baby.

As was reported on ESPN Wednesday night, yes, it does seem as if violent incidents occur far more frequently in NY than any other baseball town. Of course not ALL New Yorkers (baseball fans or otherwise) are like this. Just as not all Braves are racist morons. Nonetheless, the issue of fan behavior in NY needs to be adressed just as Rocker was.

I doubt John-boy will make anymore stupid remarks. You think that will stop the abusive, ugly, and downright illegal acts by NY fans the next time the Braves are there ? Me either. So Alpha, abuse Rocker all you want, but don’t use that to ignore the vile shit being spewed by the drunken ignorant monkey fuckers in your stands.

Is it too much to ask for a little class in NY ?

Yes

Cecil said it. I believe it. That settles it.

Look, people are going to talk trash. Fans everwhere do it. Opposing players do it. I can tell you that it is one of the best things about seeing a game live.

If some backwater pitcher gets all flustered and makes assinine comments because of it, that’s his problem.

And I got news for ya. New York invented class. We save it for the Opera, the Met and the legitimate stage. If you like your sports fans docile and indifferent, move to Salt Lake City.

Gypsy: Tom, I don’t get you.
Tom Servo: Nobody does. I’m the wind, baby.

I’ve got news for ya! Rocker is responsible for his OWN(OWN[OWN]) actions. The fans are responsible for cursing or throwing a styrofoam cup of gatorade onto the field, HOWEVER, they were not, IN ANY WAY, responsible for comments made to a Sports Illustrated reporter.

R.J.D.

Hey, maybe (some)New Yorkers are rude and have a tendency to throw more batteries than Chicago fans, but New Yorkers are diverse. I respect a diverse group of citizens that can agree on a common cause.

Your generalization that New Yorkers are all rude coincides with my realization that all Braves fans are racist. Does that make sense? NO.

Don’t generalize, it’s a big NO-NO!

R.J.D.

You got a problem with that? Email me:

upstatic@hotmail.com

I’ll show you the biggest battery you’ve ever seen!

R.J.D.

Upstatic, look super-fly, care to READ my posts before you shoot off ? I said the exact same thing about not generalizing, “Sherlock”. If you wanna go flame at least do us all a favor and actually say something original . . . duh.

So thats “trash talking” ? Am I to assume that every person who posted besides myself is in FAVOR of throwing batteries and trying to physically hurt someone ?? Fuck all of you. You wouldn’t get the true idea of the game of baseball if it came to life and bit each of you on your biggie-sized pussy asses (which must be where you keep your brains). Wake up !! If you advocate the behavior of the baseball fans in NY without any logic at all, guess what ? You are just as small minded and concieted and lacking any morals as they are.

I just can’t believe this. I mean, Alpha you weren’t my choice for Brainiac on this MB, but come the hell on. I know what Rocker did was wrong, and I know he will have to pay for it all season. My point is the obnoxious fans in NY have to fess up to crimes as well. The game of baseball is not about trying to injure the players - and any park where fans are allowed (shit, where fans would even try) to do so is not a place the game should be. If you advocate random violence against un-armed players, go root for another sport. Period.

If you ass slammers can’t see that, then I hope someone throws a battery at you the next time you are at work.

Gabriel, as if your [lame"]http://boards.straightdope.com/ubb/Forum5/HTML/000690.html]lame]( [url="http://boards.straightdope.com/ubb/Forum5/HTML/000690.html) thread “flaming” Satan didn’t prove your status as a lame poster, this thread certainly does. Or is this thread also a pathetic attempt to make a pretend flame?

I said “throwing things is classless and criminal” and you reply with “Am I to assume that every person who posted besides myself is in FAVOR of throwing batteries and trying to physically hurt someone ??” Obviously not, fucknut. No one here has supported battery throwing. I do, however, fully support trash talking.

Then you obviously don’t read GQ a lot.

If you can’t perform a simple reading comprehension exercise with my posts in this thread then there really is no reason to attempt to have any kind of argument with you. And if you’re trying to post another “shits and giggles” Pit thread then you failed at that too.

There’s not much you are good at, is there? Off with ya.

Gypsy: Tom, I don’t get you.
Tom Servo: Nobody does. I’m the wind, baby.

So, Gabriel, you don’t consider that a generalization? Throwing batteries is one thing, but to call my little brother had his friend, sitting behind home plate “uncivilized and mindless thugs” is disgraceful.

Think about what you say, and who you are directing. Watch your f-u-c-k-i-n-g mouth, my brother is NOT a thug!!

I only see a bully hiding behind a computer, attacking New York fans, you sicken me.

R.J.D.

All season huh??? 15(suspension) of 162 games is NOT all season.

R.J.D.

IIRC, “Fans” in Philly hucked batteries at Cards OF J.D. Drew because he wouldn’t sign with them after he was drafted. Seems it’s not a habit endemic to New York.

Rocker’s statements to SI not only were offensive to NYers, but to just about everybody everywhere. In case you and your hillbilly buddy didn’t realize this, there are ethnic minorities everywhere in the world, not just New York.

I’ll never condone the actions of the occasional cretin who throws object at players in any sport, but to suggest that anyone other than Rocker bears any responsibility for his remarks shows a remarkable lack of common sense.

You probably think the idiot who sued McDicks over hot coffee burns had a case, too.

Z

All those who believe in psychokinesis raise my hand.

That “idiot” you refer to was an elderly woman. Do you know why she sued McDonalds? After she sent 10’s of pleas for them to merely pay her hospital bill, McDonalds still wouldn’t help her. (It was only a few hundred dollars.) She got a lawyer, the lawyer threatened to sue if they didn’t pay for the hospital bills. McDonalds, again, chose not to. That elderly woman had GREAT CAUSE to sue, I respect her, and I hope McDonalds learned a million dollar lesson.

(I still eat there.)

Think zoony, think. Think zoony, think. Research zoony, then type. Think zoony, think.

How do you like dem apples?

R.J.D.

G-G-G-G-G-G-Gabriel-

I await your defense to your rash statements. This is your post, I do believe.

R.J.D.

Gabriel, have you ever been to a major league baseball game? And if so, were you either a)in the corporate seats on a Tuesday afternoon, or b) in Camden Yards (nothing against Camden, I think it’s the nicest park I’ve ever been to, but the crowd there is kind of, well, bland). Have you ever sat in the bleachers at Yankee Stadium, Shea, or Fenway on a Friday night? That’s the only way, in my opinion, to see a baseball game.

And to begin with, it wasn’t exactly like Rocker kind of wandered into Shea Stadium, and then walked out on the field, waved at the fans, and was pelted by D-cells. He started it, for Christ sakes. For him, or for anyone else, to claim that he was just some innocent driven to insanity by the hateful New York crowds is preposterous. Do you know how many players play in Yankee and Shea every year? Why don’t all of them get hit with batteries, and then go cry and shoot off their mouths in national magazines? It’s Rocker’s own fault that he was ignorant enough to put on his little pysched-up yelling schtick in Shea Stadium, it’s his own fault that he flipped off the crowd or whatever he did, and it’s his fault that he’s a moron redneck.

You want to turn New York baseball games into watered-down corporate affairs, like the NBA or the Superbowl, just because some stupid Confederate got his feelings hurt and then got himself in trouble in the national media? Screw you. Not my baseball.

For the love of freakin’ pete, here we go one more time for the slower ones in the group :

I DO NOT advocate what Rocker said.
I DO NOT believe anyone is responsible for his action but HIM.
YES he will be punished at least half of the season, because in every park he visits he will be met by those who were offended by his remarks.

up - you are such a bloated sack of monkey puss that you even attack people who post on your side. Sheesh what an ignorant asshole. Here is a quote from a previous post of mine :
“Of course not ALL New Yorkers (baseball fans or otherwise) are like this . . .” Is that clear enough for you ?? What part of it did you not understand ?? Do I need to translate it into dummy poster terms ? That seems to be a fairly big non-generalization.

Alpha, ah throwing old threads back at me. Original pal, shows a wide range of creativity there. BTW I am not against “trash talking” either, any major leaguer worth his money should be able to handle that. I am simply against a spectator trying to physically harm a player, if you are too then we are in agreement. Now if we could just do something about that ridiculous ego fo yours . . .

Rous, no battery throwing = corporate boring games ? Damn you are right Rous. Screw batteries lets hand out maces and axes to the fans, thats “your” baseball !! Blood , gore, death and destruction - why baseball has been all of these things for over a century now. What was I thinking ?
Obviously NY is not the only place such things have occurred. But as per the SportsCenter and Peter Gammons it does happen with much more frequency there.

I leave you with this thought, all of Rockers words in all the SI’s printed in every language will not cause physical harm to one person. One drunk fan in one stadium with one battery can kill.

Gabriel, we’re not all slow. You just keep changing your opinion.

You are an intellectual coward who would rather falsely accuse others for being “slow” than stand beind your original statements.

I’ve seen enough… I’m officially down-grading you to troll status and will recommend that others do the same.

Do Not Feed The Troll.

Gypsy: Tom, I don’t get you.
Tom Servo: Nobody does. I’m the wind, baby.

Gabriel-

You said this, explain to me why this is not a generalization, a rash one at that? Defend your statement, if you can.
