That was a good game last night. I can’t find a good NFL thread, so I thought I would kick one of with Big Blue.
Our much maligned coach (especially by me with my foot in my mouth) really has changed things up on the offense. He is taking chances, mixing RBs in and out and getting the ball to Shockey more. It doesn’t look like the same team anymore.
The defense is really playing well, they attack constantly, the backfield is still weak, but opposing QBs are getting scared almost like it was the 80’s again.
The next two games are SF @ home and Miami @ Miami, but in London. The **Giants ** could be 6-2 before the bye. I never would have believed that in the pre-season and especially after game 2.
So how is your team doing? Are their any big surprises around the league? Can Brady and company go 16-0? Can Miami go 0-16 in the same year?
I caught a little bit of the game (until the Sharks game started, w00t!) to scout out the 49ers next opponent. Lessons: I fear not the Giants run game. Do not play zone against the Giants. I like our chances.
Eli and the whole rest of the team definitely put on a clinic last night, though. Props.
In all fairness, they are mixing in RBs because Ward and Jacobs are banged up. I was wondering what Droughns would be doing…now I know.
garygnu, we had a 188 yard rushing performance for the second week in a row. If your o-line isn’t up to the task of keeping Smith upright, then be prepared for a clock-chewing, d-line punishing running attack.
CAN the Pats go 16-0? Well, they have the talent and they have a lot of advantages.
But…
Since they play in such a lousy division, they’ll probably have 1st place and home field sewn up early. If they’re 13-0 and have that all wrapped up, would they keep all their starters in the lineup? I doubt it.
Things happen. Injuries happen. To go 16-0, you have to be LUCKY as well as good. What if Tom Brady breaks his leg? I don’t see the Pats going all the way without him.
If they’re 13-0 facing a team that’s 8-5 and fighting for its playoff life, who’ll be more motivated?
Better question, if they are 15-0 and facing a team that will be eliminate with a loss, can the **Giants ** win it. (The **Giants ** have to play them in week 16.)
Soft, Giants fans. Eli is still the quarterback. A receiver can’t be made tall enough for Eli to not throw it 4 feet over his head.
In the immortal words of Winston Wolfe: “let’s not start sucking each other dicks yet”.
Good point, I was obviously thinking last week of season and my brain still defaults that to equal 16.
I am hardly going too bold. I am hoping we are playing for a playoff spot in week 17. I see two easy games coming up and then many tougher ones. The **Giants **always like to grasp defeat from victory, so they may well blow one of the two easy games. The only other game after the bye I have high confidence in the **Giants ** winning is “week 16” @ Buffalo. If the **Giants **win the 3 “easy games” they still only have 7 wins and need to scrape together at least two more out of Dallas, @ Detroit, Minn, @Chi, @Philly, Wash & NE.
If they stay healthy they could now make the playoffs, however, it is no sure thing. I am expressing joy in the fact that our coach is showing a willingness to mix things up that I have not seen in the past. This is a far cry from claiming a march to the Superbowl.
So how about your team? The **Lions ** I assume? How do you think they are going to do?
I love this season. My favorite team, the NY Football Giants, are rolling along quite nicely after a shaky start and an unsure offseason where most Big Blue fans (self included) were already calling for the head of Coach Coughlin. They have adjusted quite remarkably to the loss of Barber but that was not the biggest surprise to me. I was confident in the ability of Jacobs last year and I have been talking him up all offseason so it has been nice to see him producing routinely. Ward has been a pretty big surprise to me and I am enjoying the way that our offense is mixing things up.
The only other teams that I have been keeping up with around the league are the New England Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
As far as New England goes, it is just exciting to see what they can do from week to week. I feel like Brady continues to raise the bar each game and I cannot wait to see what is coming up in the rest of the season.
I believe that it is impossible to live in Pittsburgh and hate the Steelers. They may not be my favorite team but I love watching them play because of the energy and excitement that this town brings out every Sunday. So far, Tomlin is off to an impressive start for a first year coach and the Steelers O has that familiar Super Bowl look to them.
