Greetings all–
I sing with the Juilliard School’s chorus. We have a concert coming up soon, and it’s free, and it’ll be good, so I thought I’d give you a heads-up. Are there rules against using the boards for this? If so, I apologize. Anyway:
Friday, April 5th, 8pm
Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center
FREE!
JUILLIARD CHORAL UNION
with the Juilliard Choral Union Orchestra
Judith Clurman, Conductor
Camille Zamora, Soprano
Christina Carr, Mezzo-Soprano
Matthew Garrett, Tenor
Matthew Burns, Bass-Baritone
WAGNER “Dein ist das Reich”
BEETHOVEN Elegiac Song, Op. 118
WAGNER Siegfried Idyll
BEETHOVEN Mass in C Major, Op. 86
As far as we can tell, it’s the American premiere of the Wagner piece, and how often do you get to say you’ve been one of those? (Although before you get too worked up, the piece is an old homework assignment of his–something for his counterpoint teacher. It’s no Ring of the Niebelungen.) And the chorus is, if I may say so myself, really good.
Hmm. Should this have gone in Cafe Society? I have no idea… Anyway, y’all have been warned. Show up at least a few minutes before curtain and you should have no trouble getting seats.
Hope you enjoy the show.
Damn, Other Fish, you’d HAVE to pick the weekend I’m going out of town to have the concert, wouldn’t you? And this is something I would completely go to. But I have other plans that weekend (and other plans behind that if the ones I have weren’t going on, being that it’s ChiDope weekend)
Let me know when the next one is? Please? Pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease??
grumbles about everything cool falling the same weekend and having to pick the cool stuff to go to
You’re gonna SING the Siegfried Idyll? Well, that must have been quite a job of transcription.
Are some form of tickets necessary, or do we just show up?
Free tickets to Alice Tully?? And I don’t have to snarf it from my music teacher this time?? Hey what’s the catch? Do I have to write a 55-page essay or something?
No catch, no tickets. Just show up. If you feel like writing a paper about it…well, maybe you could submit it to Teemings?
The Idyll will be sans chorus. We’re throwing the orchestra a bone on this one. But you’re right, Uke, it would be interesting. Very Bobby McFerrin. [sub]Whom I should add is my personal GOD of all singers in the universe.[/sub]
This will be our last concert for the season. I think over the summer we’ll be preparing to take part in the 9/11 1-year commemorative. But I’m not sure if I’m allowed to give further details yet. (It’ll be cool; it’s one of the biggies and I already know it by heart.)
GT, please let me know when you ARE able to give details. This is something I’d really like to go to, for many, many reasons.
Troutnik, I thought I’d give this a little bump and ask you if we must/can get advance tickets.
Cheers!
Grrr. ChiDope.
And your season is ending, too.
Well, there’s always next season, right? Definitely keep us posted! And I hope the concert goes well - looks like a really nice selection of pieces!
Oh, wait, that would be the “no catch, no tickets” bit above . Sorry!
Jeez.
And I’m playing in my mind what your 9/11 concert might be…renewal, renewal, choral music on renewal, hmmmmmmmm.
It’d be easy with gospel, if a bit literal minded. From Gospel at Colonus: “Now, Let the Weeping Cease.”
Will the mysterious Mr. Trout be there?
Mr. Trout will also be there. He is supposed to be performing. Whether or not it will happen, not so sure. He gets back today from a month away on business, and he’s missed a bunch of rehearsals. I’m hoping he doesn’t melt down during rehearsal tomorrow…
It’s official, by the way, so I can blab. We will be doing a performance of the Mozart Requiem for the 9/11 anniversary. I’m hearing rumors that it (or another performance of it, led by us) will be a sing-along, even. So be ready.
Grandfather Trout is a GIRL?
[sub]Soprano or alto?[/sub]
Nope. It’s just that Mr. Trout is a boy.
(Tenors, both.)
Blast it! I’m going to have to miss the 4th. But I’m marking 9/11 down.
I don’t sing good, but I sing loud.
Well, paint MY face red! Sorry about that bit of theorizing in advance of the facts, Gramps.
And I’m a baritone, meself, as far as male-only choral music goes. Almost always took the bass part in SATB stuff.
