(AKA an event for jadailey’s husband to fall asleep at)
I mentioned this in sdmimbert’s thread that we hijacked, but y’all blew it off. I figure you must not have noticed it, so I’ll mention it again.
On Friday, April 20 at 7:30PM, the ASU Choral Union (of which I am a member), the ASU Concert Chorale, the ASU Symphony Orchestra, and some guest soloists will get together for a one-night-only performance of the Verdi Requiem. The Verdi Requiem is a phenomenal piece, with excellent scoring for both the orchestra and the singers. The mood throughout ranges from the thunderous wrath of the Dies Irae to the morose, melodic strains of the Lacrymosa, and that’s just the second movement. The performance will take place at Gammage Auditorium which is located on the NE corner of Apache and Mill in Tempe. Admission is FREE. Maybe we can hit Mill Avenue after the performance. After all, I’ll be styling in my fuchsia tux.
If my description of the piece doesn’t convince you to come out, then get this – Ravil Atlas is the Tenor soloist. That’s right; the one-and-only! If that doesn’t get you to the concert, I don’t know what will.
Since I like Verdi and I’m a fan of (/hijack for those of us a little rusty on our Latin - Would the plural of “requiem” be “requia”? /hijack) requiem pieces, I might be able to make it.
What’s the estimated run-time? I need to be inside Club Freedom no later than 11 in order to score tickets to Paul Oakenfold on the 21st.
Wow! There’s a pretty high percentage of Phoenix Dopers interested in this thing (yes, there were only three respondents, but that’s a high percentage of the Phoenix Dopers)! It’ll be great to have y’all out there.
FallenAngel, I estimate the runtime to be about 1 - 1 1/2 hours. That should give you plenty of time to get to Club Freedom, assuming it’s not in Goodyear or anyplace like that.
Mauvaise, you mean you’ve never heard of the entertainment juggernaut known as Ravil Atlas? He’s adored worldwide by billions of fans. He has more groupies than all the '80s hair bands combined did.
Ain’t that the truth? However, it probably means that I’m a no-go. I have a lot going on next week, and Friday is my only evening to spend with him. If Mr. jadailey would be even the slightest bit interested, I’d go, but, as it is, I don’t think that’s going to happen. Thanks, anyway!
'Salright, jadailey. I’ll just see you at the ball game that Sunday, unless you have more respondents than tickets, in which case I’ll graciously give up my seat.
So, Mauvaise and FallenAngel, did y’all make it? There was too large an audience for me to be able to pick out people I know easily. Making it even more difficult was the fact that I don’t even know what FallenAngel looks like.
I was in sort of a post-performance depression the rest of the weekend (not that I let it get in the way of having a blast at the Diamondbacks game). I would’ve loved to have done two more concerts. That’s the only think I don’t like about performing with the ASUSO–we generally only do one performance.
Mauvaise, I was trying for a third date, but she wasn’t able to make it. I had a good time with the other two, though.
Not only did I not make it to the concert on Friday (my Aunt called to cancel about 30 mins before they were supposed to pick me up), but Alan ended up visiting his family in SC and didn’t even make it home this weekend.
I’ll be expecting pictures from this evening, Strainger
That’s too bad, Mauvaise. The concert was great; the chorus in particular was superb (how’s that for modesty? well we did get the loudest applause). There will be other concerts, though.
You know, you should’ve shown up anyway. Then I would’ve had three dates.
