Yeah, it seems like a pretty heavy lift to move enough voters to Cuomo at this point.
But I guess we will know if it worked in a few hours.

Oh no! Not an aloof yet supportive wife! The horror!
A wife who excels in some totally unrelated field and doesn’t want to be part of her husband’s campaign, too. How terrifying.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they secretly want Mamdani to win and that’s why the creeps are coming out to endorse Cuomo. These guys know they’re not popular in NYC and their endorsements won’t do squat except drive up traffic for Mamdani. But there’s nothing quiet like having a high-profile leftist/communist/brown person to pound on for the next two to four years. If they can weaken the progressive left by demonizing AOC’s hand-chosen guy daily for the foreseeable future, they’re able to kneecap their most dangerous populist opponents heading into the next two election cycles.
Trump may be stupid as shit on a cracker, but the people around him know a thing or two about full-contact electoral politics.
Looks like the Post has a serious case of Mamdani Derangement Syndrome.
That’s a bold strategy, then. Helping a Democratic candidate to win a general election.
Well, it’s going to be a Democrat either way, right? It’s not like Andrew Cuomo is a Republican. I agree with the idea that from the MAGA perspective having a polarizing progressive minority as the mayor of NYC to rail against heading into the midterms is better politically than the milquetoast Cuomo.
Look how much traction they get out of AOC, and she’s just a House member.
Does Sliwa do anything but run for mayor? Can’t the Republicans find someone better to run?
Maybe. But can they find anyone else who can rock a beret like Silwa?
This is Bill Maher’s position on Mamdani – that he will be damaging to the Democratic Party at a national level. Not everyone agrees. In fact, both of this guests on the show where he made that comment disagreed with him.
They had a 20 year run after not having candidates to speak of. So stuck with Sliwa for a bit is only fair.
Yeah, but does anyone like him or want him to be mayor? This Guardian Angel stuff was decades ago, what has he done since then?
I don’t know anything about Sliwa’s policies or beliefs, but his beret game is absolutely on point.
I think he still has a local radio talk show. Not sure.
I checked, he did until very recently.
Well, Schumer still won’t say anything but we know his imaginary friends voted Silwa.
For the last three minutes — since the polls closed — I’m getting a “server error” when I try to access my NY Times online subscription. First time I can recall that happening, in 20 years.
Folks wanna know if Mamdani won. They’re excited!
I’m not getting a server error. It looks good for Mamdani. ![]()
ETA: With 36% of the vote in, it’s Mamdani with 51.5%, Cuomo with 39.7% and Silwa with 8.0%.
Decision Desk has called it for Mamdani. Hooray!
Yes! Awesome!
Looking much better, according to Decision Desk:
They’ve called it for Sherrill, with a 14% lead. Apparently endorsing a full-throated and unapologetic progressive isn’t the millstone around the neck of Democrats that Republicans hoped it would be.
I’ve been saying for decades: people vote for candidates who take stands. Democrats need to pay attention.
