I’ll be bringing along my Fluxx deck. And I’d be willing to open up my room for card-game action on an evening or two.
I’ll pick up the new edition of Fluxx. I think it’s Fluxx that’s got a new edition. It was in Pyramid, whatever it was.
… and I’ll probably bring Crimson Skies in hopes of getting someone to play it.
Your travelling companion is confirmed for next Friday at Blondies.
(Although perhaps I’d better go back and read the whole thread before I make my final committment, lest I’ve just agreed to take part in one of those crazy doper rituals with the sheep and the vegemite and the calculator and… well you know. Fool me once my friends…)
I’d be in for more risqué games. Just as they’re not risqué drinking games.
No, really. Nudity is good.
Dammit I knew I was posting too soon. Due to a birthday celebration for a friend I may miss everrything Saturday so put me down now for
Sunday’s trip to Ellis Island, Then the Ethnic night and if I can crash some where that night I’ll be at Billdo’s for Bagels.
Well I think I will be coming up. I will be getting into the city in the early afternoon on Sat so I’ll be at dinner and drinks. I’ll have to leave the city early on Sunday though so I’ll be at Ellis Island long before most people even get up.
Since I haven’t updated, I’m planing to ride in with the Weird/Ginger crew, who are in town Friday to Sunday. Of the Saturday choices, I’m thinking the Queens tour since I’ve never really been there before.
All this talk of staying in and playing card games…
…Wait a minute! We’re going to be in New York City! And you guys want to stay in and play card games?!?
Come on, people, it’s New York City! We’re going **out on the town!
Verrain and I have been taking a hard look at our finances over the last couple of days and have decided that we need to scale back our Festing this year. We won’t be able to be there for the whole weekend as originally planned. Instead, we’re going to come out just for Saturday, then travel back to Philadelphia.
We’re still planning on meeting people for the Comic Walk in front of Red Roof (easier than changing plans to meet somewhere else), we’re still coming to America and No Idea. But we’ll leave earlier than usual so we can catch a train back to Philly.
It’s disappointing for us, but necessary. I’m sorry that we’ll be missing anyone that will only be out Friday or Sunday.
People for the Comic Walk: Please let me know who’s coming so I have an idea before I leave Philly early Saturday morning. I don’t want to leave anyone behind and, if people get together earlier, we’ll be able to leave and get to the shops earlier. Also, if anyone wants my cellphone number, feel free to e-mail me and I’ll pass it along.
Thanks, and I’m sorry.
I’m going to try for the dinner @ America again, though I’ve been holding back because of this flu thing that refuses to leave. It’s got to be done by the middle of January, no?
I’m going more to see the people and hang out. While hitting the town will be fun for some of the time, I’m mostly looking forward to the chance to hang out and talk and play with people. Given a choice between hanging out playing cards with a bunch of dopers (especially a crazy game like 1000 Blank White Cards) and hanging out in a crowded bar with a bunch of dopers… well my choice wouldn’t be the bar.
(not that we have a one-or-the-other choice here… I’m fully intending to do both! I’m thinking cards could be a fun after-hours thing or an afternoon thing for folks after doing one of the other activities.)
Not to mention… some of us can’t really afford to much out-on-the-towning. Standing around at a bar nursing a glass of Coke for 3 hours isn’t much fun
E-Sabbath - I’ve got the new version; my wife bought it for me for Christmas!
nyctea - it all depends. If it’s cards in a hotel room versus exploring NYC, I’m all for wandering the streets of NYC with fellow Dopers. If it’s cards in a hotel room versus trying to carry on shouted conversations in a noisy bar, the bar’s gonna get old fast.
I’m hoping the bar will act as a focal point for assorted excursions into and explorations of the surrounding neighborhood. If it works out that way, I won’t have much interest in cards. But if on a given evening, the bar seems to be pretty much it, a game of Fluxx back at the hotel will eventually become an attractive alternative.
I can only take so much walking before my knees decide they’re going to do their watermelon impersonation.
Well, I’ve got a bum ankle right now, so there’s a limit to how much walking I’ll do at any one time, too.
But in NYC, there’s often a whole lot to see just in the space of a few blocks.
OK, after finally succeeding in getting a ticket to the last URINETOWN on Sunday, I’ve gotten the rest of my schedule together. I know you were all thinking every waking moment, “OK, fine, but when can I party with Mehitabel??”
I live in the city but in a remote outer boro in a one-room studio; it’s large for a studio but still too small to take in a couple of female Dopers, sorry. So hotels and transportation I’m all set with. If a girl is stranded by an emergency, I can offer my convertible couch, if they don’t mind loooooong subway rides. Said ride also means I won’t be able to stay out mega-late; it’s not the 70’s anymore, but that doesn’t mean the 4 train at 2 a.m. is the best idea for a tipsy girl.
Friday–Blondie’s, sure. I’ll be the girl with the short black hair, knee-whacking gym bag, and the smugness of somebody who’s just worked out.
Saturday–Brooklyn Tour, home of me sainted mother. I love the Transit Museum, too; if my Dad (ex-History teacher, big railfan, and past President of the Bronx County Historical Society) wants to come along on this part, would that be OK? Although I reserve the right to totally wuss out on the Bridge Walk if the weather’s like it is today. Brrrrrr.
And America resturant, although my budget is whispering to me to give up the drinks at No Idea.
Sunday–After a fond farewell to the caperings of Officer Lockstock, Hope and Bobby, Caldwell, Penny, and the gang, I’ll be happy to come to dinner. All the choices look tempting, but I’ve decided on the Chinese option. I seldom have enough people with me to try everything I want to try when I go with my family and friends. I wanna sit at a table with one of those carousel things! That’s half the fun!
I have off on the 19th, so if my lazy feline self gets out of bed, the Bagels n’ Lox-arama sounds great, if any of you are still speaking to me.
So, to sum up for Mehitabel: Blondie’s, Brooklyn Tour, MegaDopeDinner, Chinatown, and bagels the way God eats 'em. Thanks. And please let me know about Dad for Junior’s and the Museum.
This might be a silly question, but how late do you think people would be staying at Blondie’s on Friday night? I’m pretty sure Moe and I will be in attendance, but I have a feeling I won’t be getting there around 6:30.
Put me 'n Euty down for Blondie’s, America, No Idea, Chinese on Sunday night, Ellis Island, and the Bagel Brunch (like Jane D’oh, though, it’ll be a bite, because my flight leaves at…2:10. Jane, which airport are you flying out of? That’d be awesome if we were like, on the same flight or something).
And I’m still looking for a sushi date. I must try sushi. I’ve held off on eating sushi here in Michigan, because I was told NYC sushi is infinitely superior.
La Guardia, Seph Are you going my way??
We had quite the scare today. The bride and I went up the the shop in Fort Lauderdale where I have rented kilts for the last two and a half years, and they don’t rent JUST kilts anymore, only the full-dress pricey outfit that we don’t want to pay for.
Let’s just hope “The Scotland Yard” in Shelbyville, KY can get one sent here by Thursday.
