Instead of ranting or pointing out why I think it’s unjustified, I’ll link the story and ask medical professionals, hospital administrators and people from the legal field if what they think of the following:
I’m sure there’s already legal precedent for such awards - even though a nurse noted symptoms following the surgery - is there really $2,000,000 worth of negligence here?
As a law student, I would never presume to state whether the award was appropriate without knowing all of the facts of the case. Moreover, the article doesn’t indicate whether the $2 million is in part to pay for future medical bills (if necessary). As such, neither knowing all the facts nor the basis upon which the monetary amount was decided, it would be mere speculation to determine whether the amount was justified.
