I thought this was the funniest movie I’ve seen in a long time, & was even funnier the second time I watched it. I especially liked the Delbert character. What’s everone else’s take on it?
I own it on DVD. I hadn’t seen it in the theaters, as usual I waited until it came out on DVD. I sat down to watch it, and the first time I sat through it, I didn’t like it. I sat down a few nights later and watched it with Bosciboytoy (thanks to whoever suggested that name :D) and I loved it! I now rank it amoungst my favorite movies ever.

And for the record, I loved the movie and the soundtrack as well. Looking forward to the Coen brother’s next one this fall.
I believe it was one of the most underated movies of the year. One of my top 5 all time favs.
If there was a Coen Brother cult, I think I would forsake my earthly posssesions and join, seeking truth and enlightenment.
When Pete tells Delmar & Uly. that the reason he ratted on them “must’ve been on account of my Hogwallop blood” -referring back to his cousin’s earlier betrayal - that is pure genius in a movie full of such moments. The highest of praise!
Firstly as a poster in good standing who is considering an active campaign for becoming a moderator in the Cafe Society forum (typo’s notwithstanding), I’d like to point out that that forum is where this thread belongs, and that you’d probably have more responses there as well.
Secondly, being the entertainment pig that I am, acting as a virtual sponge in soaking up and devouring any and all things that may entertain me I can say unequivocably and without prejudice that I haven’t seen this movie yet. Is it any good?

As to the OP, I loved the movie, especially the Klan doing marching band routines. Classic

This is a great film, and George Clooney was very good in it. But was anyone else reminded of that Howard Walthrop story - I think it was called “Twelve Tough Jobs” - that retold the story of Hercules in a Deep South, depression-era setting?

I didn’t ready Homer’s Odyssey until I’d read James Joyce’s Ulysess several times, and so my introduction to those archetypes was through an early 20th century Irish lens… I think of the Cohen bros. take on it as being more of an interpretation of Joyce than of Homer-- (The Cyclops, for example, had a lot of racist qualities that seemed more of a reference to Joyce’s “Citizen” than anything that came from Homer. I kept expecting the cigar in the eye, though I guess a flaming cross was more appropriate…)
I’m listening to the soundtrack right now, it’s wonderful stuff.

This movie may well go down as my favorite movie of all time. I’ve already watched it twice during the labor Day weekend and may well watch it again tonorrow. It is so full of good moments and lines :

I still get a chuckle on seeing Stephen Root as the radio station owner after seeing him in a similar role in “News Radio.” I keep wondering if that was done on purpose.
And so many more. This movie should be shown non-stop at the Smithsonian for the work of art that it is.
I’ve seen it twice. It seemed funnier the second time. My favorite part was the hillbilly dancing by George Cloony.

Having read mixed reviews, I had little desire to watch this when my parents rented it. After seeing it, I watched it again the next day and have since bought the DVD. I loved the music and I liked spotting the elements of the Odyssey as I recognized them.
Was the man in the dark glasses meant to represent the devil? When Everett, Pete and Delmar pick up Tommy by the crossroads, he says he sold his soul to the devil. Tommy tells them the devil is a white man, with a dog and black voids for his eyes.
“For that you traded your eternal soul?”
“I wasn’t using it.”
