Oak's College Pick'em '12

I’ve been busy this week. Got my office open, finally. Putting in a lot of time with that.

Better late than never, though…your Official Upset Special this week is LSU at home over South Carolina. I look for the Tigers to bounce back from the road loss at Florida last week.

And of course I’ve got my Bullydogs over Tennessee. I think State is underrated this year.

Missing the first week (the most games) has killed nilram. He has the top points for 3 of the remaining 5 weeks and did good on the other 2. He could very well be in first depending on what the results could have been that 1st week.

I finally won a week

This week is bittersweet for me. Miss State @ Bama. My two favorite college teams meet, both undefeated. Sadly, one has to lose and I’m afraid it’s going to be my Bullydogs. That Bama defense is tough.

Your official Upset Special this week is Oklahoma at home over Notre Dame. My third favorite college team is whoever is playing Notre Dame. This week, it’s Oklahoma. As Bill Watts, Jim Ross, and the late Steve “Dr. Death” Williams would say…“Boomer Sooner!”.

Sticking your neck out on limb? Oklahoma is about a 10 point favorite in all the lines that have seen.

Just because a team is higher ranked does not necessarily make them them the favorite.

Oak’s Official Upset Special uses whichever guidelines I find most convenient at the time. It is good to be the King.

Hey Oak, it looks like State fans are getting a little cocky since MSU is undefeated so far.

Yeah…I’m afraid some of the fans are overly optimistic. Granted, anything can happen in the SEC, but still…reality check is coming for my Bullydogs. I just hope they don’t get blown out.

This question doesn’t deserve its own thread, so I just picked the most recent CFB thread to ask it in. My aplologies for the hijack.

In the Louisville/Cincinnati game in overtime Cincy got the ball first. The announcers mentioned that they would be kicking a fieldgoal into the wind. I didn’t see who won the coin toss, but I assumed that Louisville did (otherwise, UL would have gotten the ball first). However, if UL won the coin toss, wouldn’t Cincy get to pick which way they want to go? Why would they pick going into the wind? What am I missing?

IIRC, both teams go in the same Direction, and then they change direction if it goes into a 2nd Overtime.

I think a team would choose to go into the wind if it thought:

  1. they had a better running game and/or
  2. the other team had a better passing game and/or
  3. It would irritate Opal and/or
  4. the other team had a better field goal kicker

And which end zone has their fans primarily? Maybe?

25 games to pick this week, but the Main Event is Alabama @ LSU. Strange things happen in Death Valley at night, but I still expect Bama to come out on top.

Big one for my Bullydogs, too–Texas A&M comes to Starkville. State is promoting the game as the “Snow Bowl” in reference to the 2000 Independence Bowl where they beat the Aggies. State will be wearing all white uniforms, and is encouraging fans to wear white as well.

Your official Upset Special this week is USC (West Coast Version) at home over Oregon.

I was going down the line, making picks, and it turned out that I had picked nothing but favorites: until I got to the 24th in line. Arizona over UCLA.

For the first time in recorded history, I do not have an upset special for you this week. Still some good games on the docket though–Miss State/LSU and Texas A&M/Alabama top my list.

down goes 'bama, down goes 'bama

Is it just me, or is “Tiebreaker 1” messed up? There’s nothing to pick and so I can’t get my ballot past “INCOMPLETE.”

DM:, just did my picks and the #1 tiebreaker is messed up.

I am blaming Oakminster, and the fact that he did not give us an upset special last week.

Yahoo is pissed.

Even though I’m seeing this message:

=======================
NOTE: We are aware that you are currently unable to enter your Tiebreaker 1 predictions. We are addressing the issue and will have it fixed today. Thank you for your patience.

…when I entered my picks yesterday, I had no problem getting them to take, along with the tiebreakers. The problem must have come later than my entry and appears not to have affected my picks being “complete.” Weird.

And I just reloaded the page, and I was able to pick tiebreaker #1.

On what planet would the score of the Samford/Kentucky game be a tiebreaker? On YAHOO!

The Oregon/Stanford game would have been much better.

I’m pretty sure the score for one of the teams will be 0. Just not sure which one LOL.

In an effort to prevent similar problems at Yahoo this week, I offer up your Official Upset Special…

Cincinnati at home over (22) Rutgers
