Obama announcing death of Osama bin Laden [edited title]

Logged in for the first time in years to see this. Anywho, about that “Mission Accomplished”…

Bin laden is dead.

BOOYAH!
I hope they bury that bastard in raw sewage, facing west, with a pork chop in his mouth.

I just put my flag out. I encourage you all to do the same. (It’s dark so I have a light on it)

But if you’re wondering how the right will handle this, that’s how: lying through their teeth about it, like they do with everything else.

And look at the general age of the crowd – twenty-somethings! I almost feel sorry for whoever tries to run against President Obama next year. Poor slob won’t have a snowball’s chance in hell.

I suspect you probably are. If I were there, I’d be joining right in.

Welcome Back!!

WINNER.

Also, I feel…numb. Like it hasn’t truly sunk in yet. Maybe tomorrow I’ll feel differently, but for now, I’m like a deer in headlights. When I first saw this thread I thought “surely not,” and even after seeing it on friggin’ CNN, I thought “still skeptical.” Maybe I still am a little, despite the president’s confirmation. I guess bin Laden’s been part of my existence for so long that his being dead is a concept I still can’t wrap my mind around.

Only if it were any other person.

Wasn’t it ABC misreporting something else earlier?

It’s mildly creepy, but as I stated somewhere else, that’s the way it happened. I think we’d see the same crowds and the same response had he been captured alive.

I’d have preferred that he live out his life in Florence, Colorado. Oh, well, doesn’t break my heart.

You win the thread.

Stolen from a FB friend: “This must be how the wizarding world felt when Voldemort died.”

It is creepy to some extent, but I also think it’s an understandable reaction. I personally am unable to celebrate a person’s death, even bin Laden’s despite knowing the harm he has done in the world.

I was wondering about how it would feel to hear this news for almost ten years now.

It feels better than I imagined.

Maybe not his head, but I expect Obama’s got a new, tan wallet with the words “Badass Motherfucker” on it.

Well, this conservative gives credit where credit is due. Obama is neither as bad as his detractors claim. or a good as his supporters think. He has followed a more conservative foreign policy with regards to the wars than anyone, perhaps including Obama himself, ever thought would happen.

Obama has plenty of failure for the Republicans to point to in the next election, but this can only to be to Obama’s credit. Job well done.

“Terror is bigger than one person. So I don’t know where [Bin Laden] is. You know, I just don’t spend that much time on him, Kelly, to be honest with you. I’ll repeat what I said. I truly am not that concerned about him.”

George W. Bush, March 13, 2002 Press Conference at the The James S. Brady Briefing Room

“Mr. President, could you explain your plan for social security?”
“Certainly. But first, let me take a moment to bash the decapitated head of Osama bin Laden against this wall.”
<smash, smash, smash>
“I yield the remainder of my time.”

Any chance there is a GoogleEarth image of the compound?

I thought it could’ve used some background music.

I hope they treat his body respectfully and don’t sink to this kind of level at all.

It’s one thing to be proud, relieved and happy that someone who caused your nation harm is dead.

It’s another thing entirely to suggest desecrating someone’s corpse for the sake of a final “HA, take that!”

I don’t know, I heard a heli crash landed and they had to blow it up at the compound, it would be interesting to see.
