Of course, I’m assuming that admitting drug use would preclude you getting the job. I suppose that’s not a fair assumption.
Then how do all of us non-drug users manage to hold jobs?
Like your Mom said, if your friends say they are going to jump off a bridge, are you going to jump too?
Do you actually read any of the posts here? Again, Dunham was his mother’s name and for much of his life he was raised in the Dunham household - his maternal grandparents. I do not know if he was indeed called that at any point, but he has joked about it in his race against Keyes, about how if had taken his mother’s name he’d be running with the more traditional sounding name Dunham. Barry was indeed what “Barack” was morphed into during much of his childhood, just as my sons have been called Joey instead of Joseph, Mike or Mikey even (although that not so often) rather than Michael. And I call my Gabriel Gabey-baby on occasion and my Talia Talie or Tal. Me, I get called lots worse.
This is really what you got?
It’s still not something that anybody volunteers on an application without being asked. I sure as hell never have.
It’s like a Turing machine for obstinacy.
What about under penalty of perjury?
You answer the question asked. Precisely and truthfully. But you do not offer up that which was not asked. Have I ever be arrested or convicted of a crime other than a traffic offense? No. Ask me if I’ve ever committed anything that could have resulted in my being charged and/or convicted and I may need to answer differently. But there is a reason that that is not the question being asked. I suspect that the $400 question is also precisely worded such that under $400 fines are generally minor but a $400 fine and above implies a DUI or a more serious offense.
His name is legally Barack Hussein Obama. That’s what his birth certificate says, and nothing in his nicknames or that his parents/step-parents did to to the contrary, that name is his legal name, whether he’s testifying to Congress or introducting himself to an audience.
How is that question applicable to Obama? He did not answer any question untruthfully.
Yep, you seditious bastard!!! What exactly are you trying to hide???
obvious sarcasm, right?
It’s going to be interesting to see how people like Carol Stream react when the news mentions "the Obama Administration. I wonder how many of them will actually hear ‘Obama Administration’ and how many will hear 'Osama Administers Castration". Perception is an interesting animal.
I certainly would not want to live in a world full of illusions I did not understand. McCain to me is not the bad guy, not at all. I like McCain as a man who served his country. I certainly don’t want him running the country, and I doubt he will ever get that chance, so I’m not too worried.
What is mildly disturbing is how the wing nuts come out of the woodwork thinking Obama himself, the man, is some kind of demon-spawn come to suck the blood from their children. How people can twist who this man is and really believe some of the cockamamy things that are coming from them is really amazing to me.
That’s one of life’s great mysteries, that is . . .
This question is pretty clear cut. If one wanted to show that Obama lied by answering “no”, then one would need to cite an instance where he was cited, arrested, accused, formally or informally, or convicted.
I was vaguely amused by the way I was asked this question in my Green Card interview. It was something to the effect of “Have you ever committed an illegal act where you were not caught or charged that you are going to tell me about today?”, as if you could have been a serial bank robber and completely legitimately answer “no” based on the “going to tell me about today” bit.
At least Obama, unlike McCain, was born in a US state.
Heh…on the Pennsylvania welfare application, one of the criminal history questions is “Have you ever fled or are currently fleeing from law enforcement officials?” Back when I was on regular clerical duty, I used to have to help people fill out their applications, and that question always gave me pause.
Like a fugitive from justice is going to admit to it on their welfare application? Really? I honestly had no idea what I was going to do if anyone ever actually told me “yes” to that question.
The purpose of those questions is simply to force someone to lie, so that later on if they’re busted the government has an excuse to kick them out off welfare or out of the country or whatever for lying on their application. No one expects the petitioner to answer ‘yes’ to questions like that.
You embarrassed yourself there Carol Stream. Deeply.
Well, it takes a special kind of dumb to lay yourself open to the government in the way that you have to to apply for welfare if you’re in that situation, anyway. It’s kind of like wandering into the visitor’s vestibule of your county prison to apply for a guard job if you have outstanding warrants.
In a country of 300M people, and considering the state of our K-12 educational system, I wouldn’t be surprised if we had more than a few “special” people like that.
The kindest response to that is, no, he wouldn’t. Barack Obama’s life to date has been very well documented, there are no lost years or missing chapters, nor anything to even suggest he has ever operated under a false identity. The variant names you list are things that simply happened to him. And I have never heard of his actually using the name “Dunham.”
