How bizarre the insular extreme right of some americans are.

Another label-fail, drewder? You should go with a less specific word that doesn’t make you look like you don’t know these political terms mean.
Something like “doodyhead”, or maybe “poopypants”.

Hm… Who else liked to accuse his political opponents of being “fascists”, regardless of whether the label made any sense or was in any way actually applicable? Someone who was an iron-fisted dictator, and had a very distinctive mustache?

Stalin, of course!

Thomas Sowell is a Stalinist. Q.E.D.

Fascism is a radical authoritarian nationalism. It is typically headed by a populist leader who argues that a certain class of people are inferior, blaming them for all the problems and proposing himself as the solution.

A free-market controlled nationalized healthcare system would be democratic socialism, I think. Honestly, the description seems contradictory.

I cannot understand how the myth of fascism being a right-wing ideology got started. It is an extreme LEFT-wing ideology. It’s next-door to communism.

Communism, fascism, and nazism all have one thing in common – they glorify the power and well-being of government above all else. That is the very definition of left-wing thought.

No it isn’t.

Joseph de Maistre, Oswald Spengler, and Carl Schmitt would all like to have a word with you.

butbutbut HANNITY SAID SO
YOUR wrong

I’m glad we don’t have anyone like that running for president! Oh, wait…

He makes some very good points.

Of course Obama is a socialist! His final term is about to end and we have socialized roads, socialized schools, socialized water, socialized sewers, and socialized electric power in some places. Most of the military and even the aircraft carriers are socialized!

Both left and right wing regimes have to become more and more authoritarian the further they move away from the center, because the center is where most people want to be - you have to use force to move your society away from it in whatever direction.

Extreme left regimes are authoritarian because they’re extreme, not because they’re left

That’s pretty much all the additional evidence I need to know Sowell’s spouting his usual bullshit…

Does Sowell think Obama is uniquely fascist among American presidents, or more of the same?

The concept of the left/right political spectrum is from the French Revolution. The right supported the monarchy, nobility, and tradition. The left didn’t. But how can that be, if glorifying the government is the root of left wing thought? What’s more glorious than the divine right of kings? Are they leftists too? Your view would render the ideological clash between communism and fascism incoherent, let alone the Cold War. There would be no such thing as right wing dictators, just various flavors of left wing autocrats. In this lens, the right has been historically impotent. I’m curious what you think a right wing government looks like.

Good points = “derogatory things about Obama and the left that make me feel good when I read them because I hate Obama and the left.”

That’s an interesting model. What do you think about models which show political orientation and tendency toward authoritarianism as separate axes on a Cartesian-style grid?

No, you should try actually reading the article for comprehension.

I read it with comprehension-works much better.
