Obama not really the President because he didn't really take the Oath

Sometimes word order makes a difference in meaning. Sometimes it does not make any difference. The misplacement of “faithfully” in the oath of office made no difference to the meaning.

If pedants were to rule, then every President who inserted his own name into the Oath of Office, or who appended “so help me God” to the Oath of Office, would be in the dog house rather than the White House.

I totally respect your non-partisan, logical opinion. Really I do. With people like you working together with your fellow countrymen in mutual respect, I’m sure everything is going to be just fine.

<head asplodes>

Here’s some shampoo.

Youbetcha!

I’m still amazed that there are people trying to question his right to be president, after reading the comments in the link*. Is this really going to go anywhere, or what? I’ve read something along the lines of his mother being a natural citizen is qualification enough, but even if evidence was produced showing he was born in Kenya, to take away everything he has worked for when your nation was built on immigration would lower your standing in the world forever. Shut these crackpots up, please.

  • The Fox News one.

Left over from all the smoke he blew up our asses for the last 8 years?

Oh, don’t worry. Before the month is out he’ll be taking a lot of oaths!

“@#$%&?* rassafrackin’ rassafrass!!!”

Oh, well. At least I saved the price of admission to the zoo.

Britain was built on exploitation of the colonies. If Gordon Brown turned out to have a thing for sexually assaulting Australian women, would it lower Britain’s standing if he was forced to resign/Parliament was dissolved?

I know being a furriner is legal, while raping Australians* is not, but Obama would also be guilty of a fairly serious crime, if such a thing were true**- he’d have perjured himself, for one thing, by swearing that he was qualified to hold the office.

*Or anyone else.

**Obviously, it isn’t, and anyone who thinks it is can go fuck themselves.

If Obama is not the President, does that mean Bush can still invade Canada?

I think you’d probably be able to fend off a 62-year-old man with a shotgun, even if he does jog a couple of miles ever morning.

Oh, please. You’d have written this post regardless of what Obama said, simply because he’s a Democrat. Similarly, had McCain won, you’d have been here praising him for the vision and leadership he showed in his inaugural speech, even if said speech had consisted of McCain droping his pants and singing “I’m a Little Teapot.”

If I’d thought he would do that, I might’ve voted for him…

The difference may be that the tune of “The Star-Spangled Banner” (aka “To Anacreon in Heaven”) is actually rather difficult to sing.

I’m not sure, but it would certainly make him a little more interesting. John Major would have had to go on a spree killing.

Say all he ever remembered was being in Hawaii, and nobody had told him any different, could he be held to account for a parental error of omission, whatever reason there might be for that? What about when people are born on foreign military bases; are they not classed as US citizens?

Same here. I’m just what iffing for a worst-case scenario…

I beg to differ. McCain ran an absolute horrible campaign. He is no public speaker; I think everyone can agree on that. But Obama, despite coming off as a stuttering doofus whenever he’s off script, actually does have a reputation a great orator. He usually knows exactly how to “sell” a speech. I just happen to think he failed today, that’s all.

Besides, isn’t the reverse true, as well? What else are the mindless Obama parrots gonna say about his inaugural address? These are people who weep with joy at absolute nonsense like “Hope” and “Change” and “Yes We Can”. That’s essentially all he said today and his followers are calling it a masterpiece. Give me a break.

And this is just more evidence of how disconnected your perceptions are from reality. Most people are saying that Obama’s speech was competent, with a few good lines, but wasn’t an oration for the centuries. As evidence for that, you can look at… oh, I don’t know… how about the thread to which you’re currently posting?

You think the handful of posters on this thread constitutes “most people?” Interesting.

I dunno, I think having to read every message of any message board would be soul crushingly dull/mind numbingly horrible after a day or two. Think of all the TMI threads we get here.

not “most people on the planet”, but “most people in the conversation you’ve chosen to participate in”. It’s not like your initial post to this thread was labeled “Dispatches From the Outside World” y’know.

Indeed.

No, wait. The other thing. Tedious.
