Just a heads up that Barack Obama is going to be on TDS tonight. Might be worthwhile.
Holy cow. I’m glad you posted this, Dio, or I would have missed it. I had to watch the morning rerun. For whatever reason, the guide did not have last night’s episode marked as “NEW” and so the DVR didn’t record it. Thank you!
Cool. I’m glad my post didn’t go to waste.
The interview was pretty fluffy, but Stewart’s question about whether Obama intended to enslave the white race was pretty funny, as was Obama “hoping up” mundane phrases.
Clearly TiVo has a conservative bias. I bet it recorded Colbert.
Here are the videos online:
I said the same about Clinton’s when she was on and someone excused it on the basis of the satellite hookup versus an “in studo” appearance. I wasn’t looking for either to get nailed to the wall but I know Jon can be a good interviewer when he wants to be so it’s always a little bit of a let down when he goes the puff route with a noteworthy guest.
Maybe it’s part of the agreement of the appearance as well. I thought both Clinton & Obama were smart in doing a skit appearance on Colbert versus an interview since it’s easy to come off looking dumb when navigating Colbert’s questions.
Colbert pulling off the stunt of getting all 3 credible Dem. candidates on one show was awesome. Plus I think the “EdWord” was maybe the best Colbert bit ever. It shows how significant these shows have become.
PS 1: Ever think how Bill O must feel that the guy imitating him won a Pullitzer Prize?
PS 2: The Times had an article today about pols on TV. Bush was on Deal or No Deal.
Wasn’t that a Peabody?
It was a Peabody. However I think O’Reilly claimed he won a Pulitzer, so cosmically it sort of works out.
The interview wasn’t anything special, but it was pretty funny. The way I see it, Jon generally lets candidates say their piece and searches for a little insight into their character. The people he nails are usually pundits. He seems to view them as the filth oozing out of the political sewer, which is a view I share.
Another good question waswhen JS asked if Obama was worried that he might get the nomination, win the General Election, be inaugurated as President, and Hillary would still be running.
Actually, I think O’Reilly claimed to have won a Peabody while at Inside Edition, but it turns out it was awarded after he had left the show. Oh yeah. And it was a Polk Award, not a Peabody. Aside from that, he was spot on.
Except that Obama’s little bit with the On-Notice board was much better than Hillary’s IT support bit ( ). She only benefitted from being there in person. However, by being at the front of the show, it still meant Colbert could get some laughs at her expense after-the-fact, plus it gave Obama with the final lasting impression.
But Edwards was a hoot, and should definitely do the EdWords again.
I wonder if a crowd showed up at Primanti Brothers last night. And I for one am glad that he directly addressed the slavery issue; I wouldn’t mind so much if they’d employ me as a slave like a Greek tutor was a slave, but I’m way too allergic to most plants to work in the field.
I thought Obama had a bit of a shit-eating grin on his face. Like, “After tomorrow, this will all be sewn up.”
That was friggin’ hillarious!
Did anyone else think the end of Hillary’s appearance on TCR was a bit strange?
Granted, I don’t expect much in the way of comedic timing from politicians, though Edwards and Obama carried their skits well, but when she read that last line about ‘calling her at 3 in the morning’, she seemed to do so very, very flatly. She also sort of said it over her shoulder as she was walking quickly off stage, and from the camera views we were offered at home, she did not appear to even acknowledge the audience. Obviously she had to of known the script before hand, so was it simply bad delivery made more awkward in contrast by Edwards and Obama(though it did strike me the first time around too) or was there something else there? Maybe she got surprised by Edwards and Obama’s appearance too? Or perhaps, we actually saw her “get” the joke on stage and infront of the audience?
It was also nice to see the only Iraq War Veteran currently serving in Congress, Rep Patrick Murphy(D-PA), share the stage with the candidates in a solid interview, as well as fully endorse Obama. Maybe that was the surprise for Hillary?
