Obama Vs US flag lapel pin

I periodically receive an email containing “facts” about President Obama.

One of the “facts” in the most recent email is that Obama refuses to wear a lapel pin depicting the US flag for reasons that seem to me to be far-fetched.

Snopes de-bunked every claim except the lapel pin; if it is there, i missed it.

Can anyone tell me if he does or does not wear such a pin? I’d appreciate an appropriate link if one is available. (I love to toss these emails back to the sender)

Google image search for “Obama lapel”

I’m really not sure how often he wears a pin, but he has one in the official portrait that is found in Federal buildings and such.

It may be a temporary picture, but I see he’s wearing a pin on the front page of the White House official website: link. In fact, if you click on over to the photo galleries, and then to the “photos of the day” for each month, he seems to be wearing a pin in just about every photo where his lapel is visible.

Oh, snore.

Time Magazine, 14 May 2008.

He doesn’t wear one every day, but he certainly does wear one frequently. People get hung up on the dumbest things.

when he does, it’s Old Glory.

‘Stay patriotic, my friends.’

Look close, there’s NO GOLD FRINGE!!!:eek::eek:

“That’s not a gold fringe; it’s Monica Lewinsky!”

Thanks for the replies; i was not aware of the great lapel pin controversy. I don’t get out much.
The gist of the email is that he never wears one because he is committed to a one world government and/or because other countries view it as confrontational; not everyone loves us and when he visits such a country his lack of the damn pin shows that he has no courage: coward.

You need to block people who send you these emails. My mom sends them to me to debunk. She’s pretty vigilant about this.

Wasn’t it during the ‘terror’ of the French Revolution that you could get beheaded if you didn’t wear the colors?

And block them NFL Offensive-Tackle style, by knocking them flat on their asses running straight at them full speed.

Here’s a picture of Obama at last year’s G8 Summit. Wearing a pin.

Here’s Obama with Angela Merkel. Look carefully and you’ll see the pin.

Obama in Moscow with Vladimir Putin. Still rockin’ the pin.

That is one telling thing about all these BS e-mail campaigns: they keep recycling crap from the past over and over as if it were something just brought to the public attention.

I would wear a pin of the Great Seal once in a while just to see if they notice. And every so often one of the *Reverse *of the Great Seal, with the pyramid and the Eye of God, just to freak them out.

Whenever this stupid story gets trotted out, I always think about an article I read about a guy visiting North Korea. He said that everybody goes around wearing patriotic lapel pins, and at one point asked a guide what would happen if he didn’t wear his. The guide simply couldn’t imagine someone forgetting, or choosing not to wear their lapel pins.

Can’t find that article, but when I Google North Korea and lapel pins I get several hits, such as this article from 2002:

(bolding mine)

he’s wearing one during his visit to Ireland last year, while gasp drinking a pint of Guinness

I guess he’s really a secret Irishman, then.

O’Bama

Black Irish.

It caused a bit of a stir on the campaign trail back in 2007. For a while Obama did not wear one because he felt it was facile to judge someone’s patriotism on whether they stuck a little flag on their suit. However once his opponents starting kicking up more of a fuss about it he caved and began wearing one; I think he continued to wear one throughout the rest of the 2008 campaign, although I can’t remember for certain. Nowadays he wears it off and on.
