Obama's getting shot at! Ha-ha-ha! WTF?!?!

What political figures have been assassinated by Muslims?

I guarantee you, there are far more white racists in the US than Muslim extremists (who have more to gain by Reublicans staying in the White House than Democrats).

Well, I guess they’ve killed the same number of ME politicians (in say, the last 15 year) as extremist Jews, then.

Is it possible to limit the discussion of racial or religious motivated killing to within US borders? Because if we consider the whole world, well, there’s not much point. Every POV has some fanatical kill-crazy group SOMEWHERE, it seems.

While the nation sleeps, the Amish fanatics plot to advance thier murderous agenda. Wake up, America!

Bhutto was a successful attack.

Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri was assassinated, either by Syrian agents or another terrorist group.

The 9/11 attack was also intended to wipe out a large number of American politicians (Flight 93 was aimed at either the Capital or the White House).

It’s likely that al-Qaida plotted to kill Bill Clinton in the Philippines, but never managed to carry it out.

The Palestinian Authority plotted to kill Ehud Olmert in Israel.

Ahmed Omar Abu Ali was indicted for a plot to kill President Bush.

Last month, the Philippine security forces went on high alert after discovering a plot by Abu Sayyaf to assassinate President Arroyo.

Three Islamic extremists were convicted and jailed in Jordan for attempting to assassinate President Bush in 2006.

And there are plenty more, going back to Anwar Sadat, who was assassinated by Muslim Extremists.

Including the hand grenade thrown at Bush, he has been the subject of at least three assassination plots, at least two of which were plotted by Muslim extremists.

I think they’re a slightly bigger risk than the yokels back in the Holler.

Well, so much for discussing American fanatics.

I’m sorry… Why does this have to be limited to American borders again? Presidents travel the world. In any event, 9/11 was a mass assassination attempt on U.S. soil by Muslim extremists, was it not?

Do you honestly believe that Barack Obama would have more risk of assassination from some racist yokels than from organized terrorist groups who have declared war against the U.S., and already have a record of repeatedly plotting to kill American Presidents, and who have millions of dollars available to them and the backing of a terror network?

Based on the history of assassination attempts against presidents, yes.

Based on the history of assassination attempts against prominent black Americans, hell yes.

Yes, without question. The fact that you would even have to ask reveals a lack of knowledge about the US.

I’m wondering if Sam Stone thinks the Tim McVeigh’s and Eric Rudolph’s of this country are an extinct species.

The truth is that if Obama becomes president, he’ll be a target of both international fanatics as well as home-grown ones. McCain might not be every conservative’s fave, but I doubt if his campaign is getting death threats from the guy next door.

Sam, I’d be interested to hear your take on the links I referenced previously. Here they are again for your convenience.

Assassination Factor

Journalist plays out assassination factor

Obama must be wary.

Interestingly, the last serious assassination attempt against a US president by an American was from A right-wing wacko.

There’s also the less serious but more hilarious plan to assassinate Clinton by shooting a poisoned cactus thorn out of a cigarette lighter, planned by the rightwing nutsos of the Republic of Texas.

Sam, your bringing up of Muslim extremists seems to be a distraction. I think we all agree that Muslim extremists present a serious threat to world peace in general and to the US in particular, as evidenced by 9/11; that’s not in dispute. The question is what sort of threat Barack Obama faces now, and will face if he becomes president. That’s a very different question, and I’m not seeing how it’s helpful to bring up assassination attempts against Pakistani leaders.

The attempt against Bush is relevant, certainly. I’ve now read half a dozen articles covering the case, and although I’ve come up with the terrifying detail that the defendant showed up in court with his mouth sewn shut, I’ve been unable to find any evidence that he was a Muslim extremist. Can you clarify your evidence for this?

Given that al Qaeda has been around since the latter days of Reagan, and extremist Muslims have been around since long before our country’s founding, the fact that 100% (to my knowledge) of assassination attempts by Muslim extremists on US presidents have been against Bush is telling. (The purported attempt by Hussein against Bush Sr. doesn’t count, of course, since it was motivated by politics; Hussein was many bad things, but a Muslim extremist he wasn’t). There’s no particular reason to believe that the extraordinary ill will W. has built up in the extremist Muslim community will transfer to the new president. There is plenty of reason to believe that centuries of anti-black hatred and violence in the US will find a new focus in Obama if he becomes president.

Oh, y’all are taking this way too seriously… it was just good ol’ joshin’…there ain’t nothing funnier when you hear an unexpected noise than an off the cuff image of an upstart Negro politician falling off his chair, legs all akimbo when a gun is pointed at him…That’s Funny, because, well, um, well, because we understand what responsible gun ownership is about!

Or Something.

The former Governor of Arkansas making a joke about a Black man being shot. Yeah, funny as hell.

It’s not conservative vs liberal, it’s north and south of the Mason Dixon line. Almost all of the assassins listed are from south of it.

Maybe so, but I bet the sons of bitches’ mommas were from the north.

I was at the convention, although I missed that moment in person. But listening ot the tape, I don’t hear a big response to Huckabee’s joke. Sounds like a few gufaws from the ever-present asshole component, while the rest politely wait for the moment of pandering to pass. If you wanted to hear everyone cheer, you needed to have been in the convention hall when R. Lee Ermey said he’d be back on the History Channel with a new series

What I did hear in person, much more disturbing, was at the Saturday night banquet along with 4,000 other people, and which did indeed get a big response. Glen Beck advocated that we NOT talk to the Iranians, as Obama would, but KILL them. And another big response came from his assertion that our problems in Iraq are the fault fo the Liberals who tie our military’s hands behind its back. 4,000 people stood up and cheered.

I won’t indulge myself with the conceit that I was the only one present with the “humanity” to visualise little girls in headscarves turned into “pink mist,” just the only one who saw it other than as the hard-headed reality of what needs to be done by this the greatest nation on earth. And certainly the only one present who recalled Oliver Cromwell’s quote “I beseech you in the bowels of Christ, consider it possible you might be wrong!”
