A reporter on CNN said (verbatim) that it was “F’ing Amazing.” Don’t think I’ve heard that expression on live news during primetime before. At least not when someone knew their mike was on.
Did you mean to post this in a different thread?

He didn’t mention Bush either if I remember right. I thought it well done. He certainly presented himself as anything but an American hating terrorist loving socialist agitator.
I’ve been Im’ing the Singuy who is a bit older and a bit more conservative than I am, although we are both Independents*. I had misgivings about the 30 minute commercial because I thought it might be over the top. But we both thought it was WOW, even though we had seen quite a few of the bits earlier. Gave us an “oh yes” feeling.
We simul-posted essentially the same message: “Reminds me of JFK.”
Hope, sharing, coming together. I can get behind that.
*I donated $100 to Obama; the first time I have ever given any money to a political entity. And I will be working on the GOTV on election day, also a first. So you guys doing your contribution calculations have one datum point.
Only if they owned property right? This fact was pretty much overturned though by the 1840s however.
Anyway, great infomercial! Home run.

Is the infomercial available anywhere on line? I don’t see in on CNN’s web site yet.

Remember the tv stations that were forced to broadcast the anti-Kerry documentary in 2004? Sinclair.
I just watched it online. Wow. That was really well done. Very powerful, very moving, struck exactly the right notes.
I thought it was very moving, excellently produced and helped Obama’s message. The half hour went by quickly for me and, I’ll be honest, I like Obama but find myself glancing at my watch during his longer speeches.
The one most jarring part for me was the story with the black family getting crippled by medical bills. Immediately following it, Obama says how he’ll fix… energy independence? My wife was all weepy over the story of the family and you’d expect Obama’s plan to help families like them but he’s talking about green jobs and our duty to conserve energy. Seemed like poor editing.
It’s on youtube. The link is upthread. I think on the first page.
No. Sorry. I watched the informercial and the interview of McCain on Larry King on CNN immediately after, and for some reason, I felt like we were all watching together and you were supposed to magically know what the hell I’m talking about.
really, what could sen. mccain say?
“wow, that was fantastic, i think i’ll vote for him!”
now that would be news and quite a soundbit for the next obama ad.
how long was the king interview?
I thought the same thing. It was a pretty big misstep - made it seem like he wasn’t listening or paying attention or caring, or that he didn’t have an answer to their specific problem. Since A) it was all prerecorded and edited and B) he does, that’s ridiculous, but it hit a sour note I couldn’t quite get over for the next 10 minutes or so.
But that aside, I thought it was interesting, but not terribly illuminating. No new information, but lots of inspiration, which I think oughtn’t be underestimated these days.
I noticed that as well, but I think it was intentional - here’s my reasoning: the families he profiled were normal folk, he had a finite period of time to get a message out so he didn’t continue the discourse of the message each family had because they were sort of self-serving vignettes. Trouble with bills, mortgage, health care…
I thought the guy who worked every other week for Ford Company was powerful, especially when it concluded with him phone banking for Obama. Shows what a grounded intouch candidate Obama is.
So? I’ve donated around $1500 (I think) to Obama, in dribs and drabs over the last few months. Never over $100, and sometimes less. Does that make me a big donor who can call in political favors?
Very powerful, moving 27 minutes. In the Huffingtonpost link, I did not see the cut to the live portion. - was it good?
It was a perfect answer to the negative “who is Obama” message that McCain’s team has been pushing for the past week.
For those who whine about McCain not being able to afford 30 minutes on 5 networks, I’d love to be able to give him 30 minutes free. I think that all we’d see is a non-stop parade of insinuations, half-truths and scary pictures of “associates” We’d hear that Obama is not a “real American”. We’d hear Obama’s name 50 times, and the background music would be very SCARY. It’d be perfect in time for Halloween.
You have a point, which is rather unusual for the dope.
Yeah, if McCain wants to turn the remainder of the election into a referendum on whether or not we want Obama, I happily invite him to. Might work against Hillary Clinton, who has pretty much always had high negatives (who, naturally wouldn’t be pretty much inviting the election to be a referendum on her), but if it’s between Obama and the status quo, there’s no way to make Obama less popular than the status quo. Especially since negative campaigning is one aspect of the status quo that people are sick of.
I wonder if Obama will get any kind of bump from this.
I’m hoping it will. I’m also curious as to how many people tuned in.
