True my stats are close to that 5’5 , 135 or so and I’m a size 4. It depends on body fat %. The “average” woman wishes she was 140
Yep, I think you’re right. I’m not sure when or by who the “average woman weighs 140” factoid came from. The data I linked to earlier gives the average weight of American women aged 20 and over at 163 pounds (And height at 5 feet, 3.8 inches.)
That’s the latest stat I heard, WhyNot – when Tyra Banks was being accused of being fat after putting on a few pounds, and looks fantastic at 160. I think I paid closer attention to it, because I’m still taking off baby pounds and am hanging around 160 at the moment at 5’ 9."
FWIW I fit comfortably in a Size 12 from the Gap and Limited, and I think they’re the “generous” cut, although I think I’ll be able to get into my old 10s if I can drop about 5 to 8 pounds.
Well, I disagree, and I’ve met a few models myself. However, we can just agree to disagree.
My husband, who visits various businesses in the area, including Wal-Mart, as part of his job, has noticed a big difference in the average customer weight of each Wal-Mart. The rural and ethnic areas have the heaviest customers. The areas where there is lots of “new money” and McMansions, comes in second. And the older affluent areas, ( the ones who lost the battle against having a Walmart in their area), have the least heavy customers.
As for the OP, Those ladies look pretty damn healthy compared to what I’m used to seeing around here. For one thing, they’re outside walking! But, you have to take into consideration the style of that era required women to wear those horrible one-piece girdle things, that held everything in and controled the jiggle factor. Without the girdle, they might look more similar to what we’re used to seeing at Wal-Mart.
They’re now saying that anything over 31 - 32 inches spells danger for women! Other sites say 35 inches, but I suspect lower is better.
